Anyone have advice on how to make it hurt less?  :(  I actually tend to have a high pain tolerance, but not for this! I have the Braun 5270. It hurrrrrrts when I try it on my legs, and leaves red bumps when I'm done. Ive yet to be able to do my whole legs because of the pain.

stretch the skin out helps alot and it does get alot easier after the first few times. your not supposed to but i also find it hardly hurts after i have showered for some reason

I was going to suggest showing as well.

But try a warm shower and see how it goes.

Then try cold.

But you might just have the sort of skin that isn't suited to this.

Red bumps are part of the process and will happen no matter what.  The instructions usually say to do it at night so the bumps are gone in the morning.  As for tips, the main thing would be to make sure the hairs aren't too long!  It hurts more if you try to do it with hair that's longer than the recommended length, which is about 1/4 of an inch.  The other thing is to be bold.  Don't try to gently apply the epilator in little spurts.  Press that bastard to your leg and slide it up.

Epilating shortly after a hot shower is a good solution (make sure your skin is dried off though). The heat opens up your poors making it easier to rip those suckers out. :) Also, I have found that it helps to trim them short before epilating. You will get fewer of them per session, but because of that it becomes less painful. You will need to epilate more often in the beginning - once or twice a week - till you get them as they grow in. Also, after the first few hair cycles they come back thinner and lighter, less dense, and are easier to pull out (less painful). I have also found that afterwards wiping with a cool damp cloth helps to relieve much of the stress to the skin and then a moisturizer helps to minimize the redness and bumps.

It gets progressively easier, but you do have to keep maintaining once every few weeks, otherwise the new hairs continue to thicken and get stronger and you have to go back to square one pain levels.

Have fun with it.

I strongly suggest getting waxed professionally. I have been getting full body waxed for years and nothing you can do yourself can come close and they remove every unwanted hair. I only have to be waxed every 7 weeks now (9 months HRT plus years of waxing). It costs about $120 but nothing feels better than getting dressed after a fresh waxing; sexy panties and bra, stockings and a frilly camisole feel wonderful. Believe it or not you get use to the pain but a professional knows how to minimise it. I use to take a pain killer but I don't anymore. I am actually looking forward to my Monday waxing appointment.
