I had a pretty embarrassing moment today at a local mall. After my therapy session i headed over to a footlocker in search of some new shoes and found these niki shocks black/purple that i really liked. The man working at the time(why couldn't there be a women to help me) messured my foot and acted kinda of surprised, my size is 10.5 on the verge of 11. Well it turns out the shoe i liked the size stopped at 10 so i guess i'm screwed when it comes to buying tennis shoes, idk :(. I don't think i'm bigfoot for i stand 5'10" tall at 150lbs. Does anybody else have probs finding tennis shoes or any shoes for that matter?

Shoe size is a hurdle for almost all of us.  I'm lucky in that I'm right at the outer edge of 'normal' - size 10, maybe 9.5 depending on the shoe.  Which is another thing -- shoe size varies significantly among different brands and styles, so if you keep trying size 10 shoes you might find one that fits.  There's a number of posts on here about various places to find shoes in sizes 11+.

I wear a 10-11 mens that makes it, um 12-13 womens. Pretty much I figure if I want something cute the Internet is my only option. I am 6'0 :( so I don't think anything with a heel i'd be even taller!

As far as tennis shoes go, Converse All Stars are pretty cool, gender neutral and available in pretty much any size.

Shoes are something I'm dreading when I start to transition... size 13 mens  :icon_ashamed:

I feel your pain, I am a 12 in women's and I hate it. In the rare event I find something cute, they are very overpriced, or only available online, which can be even more $$$ with shipping, etc.

Ahem... You won't feel sexy confessing where you shop but...

Payless Shoes carries up to size 12 in almost everything. 13 and above in some things. They also have a LOT of styles and colors, so you're not terribly restricted.

Feel for you hun. I kind of have the reverse of this problem, I have really small feet so finding mens shoes that fit for my current everyday existence can be a pain, a lot only go down to UK 7 or 8 which is still too large.

Will agree on the converse...I practically live in mine and there's so many colours to choose from.

womens sizes tend to be about a size bigger than stated...I always had to get 9 men but 8 women...and then there is the matter that never having to constrict our feet while in male mode and bigger shoes means that our feet can be trained to be a size or so smaller anyway.
choose colours the same way you choose sweaters and tops ..some colours seem to make feet look big.

I was on amazon.com the other day and found alot on there, the only prob i see is how many times shipping back and fourth before i find the right pair. I think i might give it a try this week.

I just found another online place that has stylish shoes toward the larger sizes (up to 11):

www.urbanog.com

(don't be fooled by the address, it's coated in pink)

Prices are okay, but shipping is expensive.

This is really terrible advice. It's this way of thinking (well, that and high heels) that's left many older women's feet essentially deformed and crippled, including my grandmother's (and she would have had a hard enough time in life as a polio survivor). Shoes should fit you properly, without binding or crushing or cramping any part of your foot. Modern shoe sizing and salesmen are much better about this, but you have to do your part.

just why do you look in a transwomen's section?
And what I said was not advice but observation.

I just look at recent threads. The ladies post in our forum all the time.

And whether you call it advice or an observation, it's still dangerous.

Speaking only of American shoe sizes, women's are two numbers higher than men's.  I wear a 9 men's and 11 women's.  Normal width for men is D; narrow men's is B.  Normal width for women's is B, wide is D, and narrow is usually AA.

As Kyril said, the shoes should fit properly or you are going to have trouble with your feet (and legs and hips and back).  Try the shoes on and walk up and down in them on carpet.  They should be comfortable.  They can be snug but should not bind or force the bones of your feet to be out of natural alignment.

When I changed my wardrobe I went nuts and bought bunches of shoes.  They are all 11B, but some I can't wear for more than four hours at a time.  Others I can wear day after day.  I can wear some really cute ones for a day but have to wear others the next day to let my feet recover.  (Ah, the travails of womanhood... ::))

I think that's normally true, but there are a lot of factors.  I spent most of the past 8 years wearing size 11 men's shoes.  You can imagine how (pleasantly) surprised I was to find that in women's shoes I'm size 10!  Clearly my men's size was wrong, but I doubt I'd fit into a men size 8 comfortably (though I don't really plan to buy any more men's shoes to test it).

My point is, the only way to know for sure is to try on a shoe and see if it fits.

Maybe a less controversial way of putting it would be to say that guys tend to wear socks with ttheir shoes, which are often quite thick and add to their overall shoe size. They also choose a fit purely for comfort. Women tend to wear bare feet inside their shoes, or thin nylon tights and - like it or not - tend to choose the smallest (and thus most feminine) shoes they can get into ... I'm not speculating here, BTW: I've seen news reports on how women buy too-small shoes ... Anyway, the consequence is that MTFs might therefore find they can take smaller shoes as women than they did as men ... Maybe??

Socks probably do fit into it, although I actually find it can be easier to get into some shoes (4" heels lol!) with socks/stockings, because the foot slides into place easier, rather than the skin sticking to the material.

I'm kind of dreading the woman shoe-buying.  I've worn as high as a (men's) 16 in some brands of shoes, with a 13 being more the average (huge variance, i know.)  Hopefully I experience the smaller size phenomena.  n+2 would be an unpleasantly high number.
