DAYTONA BEACH -- There's a wiry little 7-year-old in Deltona who can name an impressive number of Major League baseball players, NFL bruisers and NBA stars.

The second-grader also loves reading astronomy books and watching "Jeopardy," and is a political junkie particularly smitten with President Obama.

Maybe it was the burden of lugging around a weighty secret from the age of 3 or 4 that sparked the early maturity.

The child is a girl biologically, but wants nothing to do with anything female.

A nice, positive article, but once again I see the term "transgender" incorrectly defined.

I also think it's precipitate to rule out the kid's very high T level as a possible influence on his gender identity. Especially since some experts theorize that high T levels could influence the fetus to be trans. But then, I'm no expert myself...

I like most of the article but still suggesting that attaching gender to activities that everyone can do is a big no-no.

Liking to cook or liking to hunt or liking to dance or crochet or what have you doesn't and should never define your gender. Just because an activity is associated with one sex because the majority is within that sex doesn't mean it should be a set-in-stone ideal.

That, too, but it HAS been shown that, generally speaking, little boys tend to gravitate toward aggressive and competitive activities, whereas little girls tend to gravitate toward cooperative and distinctly less aggressive play. With that said, it doesn't mean that baseball (or football or insert whatever) is inherently a boys' pursuit as they suggest in the article.

I'm happy for this little boy.

Haha, I wish I never had a period. Maybe in the future, more parents will be accepting like his own.

Gah, I remember how sick I was the first time (not as sick after that, but it was bad enough). And I had to tell my mother. I would give a lot to have been spared all of that. And everything else. This kid is lucky, for a trans kid.

Yep, but I think the worst thing about it (well, besides the pain but I don't have that too bad) is that it happens every month, without fail. And opens the door to all kinds of mood swings that I never had to deal with before.

Mothers generally seem to think it's a good thing, which I will never comprehend.

My mother hugged me. I still get the heebie-jeebies when I think of it. It was almost worse than the bleeding.

And...this is so sick...said something like wasn't it worth it--my being sick and all--because now I was a woman. No. No. NO.
