Okay, so i'm going in next week to talk to my doctor. Question for you guys is:

How did you bring everything up with your general practitioner?

I've been going to this doc for a couple of years now and the topic never came up. I'm a bit nervous about bringing it up with her (since she is also my mom's main doctor - i know she can't say anything medically to my mom....). But I don't really know what to ask for - do i NEED a psychologist letter for starting T (i'm going to one anyway but just wondering), do i need an endocrinologist?

Just how do i bring it up?

It was much easier with my best friend (who took it very well).....

I would just come out and say that you identify as a FtM and would like to get moving with transitioning hormonally and would like her help.

Yes, you will need a letter from a psychologist to start T, and you will have to go to them for about 3 months. (unless you are living full time and the doctor considers that adequate)

I was nervous telling my GP too. It started out with me asking her if she knew what gender identity disorder was. She said yes so I told her good, then you know where this conversation is going. She was surprisingly supportive and asked many questions as well as sharing stories about other trans patients.

I plan to see a psychologist anyway - i will DEFINITELY need help with my parents and it would be great to have someone to talk to. I'm also not going on right away (even if i could) because i would LIKE to lose some weight first.

So i guess that will work out!

I'm planning to do the same thing sometime very soon and also kinda nervous about it, so I'll steal the advice in this thread as well I think!

wat u need to do is get a therapist and talk to ur therapist bout this. Me wat i did was i already have a therapist, i spoke to my doc and she gave me a prescrition 4 T cream. If i were u i would just ask my doc 4 cream, pills, or patch. If u want the injections its all in ur hands. But i hope i helped.

A licensed medical doctor in New York can prescribe anything they want.  However, I'm sure that CYA is taught in med schools like it is in law schools, and that's from day one.  So I'm sure that they would want some sort of second opinion/back-up, if not an endro to actually prescribe it, which gets them off the lawsuit.

What I did was ask for a referral to a gender clinic. That was a pretty good opener for her to start asking questions, and she was also very supportive. I don't know where you are, but over in the UK at least, GPs can't directly refer to anyone other than a psychiatrist, and it'll be their job to decide where we go after that.
