I'm taking a class called "Queering Gender" and it's a focus on Transgender (mostly).  I need some ideas for a research paper topic, as I can't come up with one.

Any ideas?

Something transgender related.

How about something showing that ->-bleeped-<- exists
across all ethnicities, religons and socioeconomic statuses?

I read a book called Her Husband was a Woman!: Women's Gender-Crossing in Modern British Popular Culture. It's quite short and I found it interesting to see a slice of history through newspaper articles and how attitudes changed with the advent of psychiatry. I think you could get some ideas if you looked through books like that.

How people have perceived transexuals or others through time?

Well when I was thinking about a Phd in human sexuality (sadly put paid to by the credit crunch) I was thinking of doing something along the lines of studying: the difference between media portrayal of Trans issues and the observed reality, and the way in which both have evolved over the past 60 years.

How about showing why various trans=related medical procedures are mandatory and not cosmetic and why insurance should cover them. FFS, BA and GRS as well as HRT, Laser/Electrolysis facial hair removal.

And maybe suicide rates and how it ties to not being able to have the medical procedures due to cost.

I did a paper on transgender mental health last quarter.  It turned out all right but I only had like 7 or 8 sources total was sorta hard to find.  Made the analysis part easy at least :p
