Hey guys.  I have a critique for all the art I've been making today.  Since a lot of it is heavily gender themed work I think I may be outing myself.  I'm sure people have noticed that I am looking a lot different to last year. My school is pretty small and I am pretty social in my department so a lot of people know me. It is feeling really important that I be address by my proper name and pronouns.  So I think I will say something today.

Or maybe make a little card.  Or a powerpoint slideshow.

Wish me luck.  I told me tutor I wanted to be called Eli and now she calls me Ellie, even tho I have corrected her.

Are you trying to tell them something important about yourself or delivering a quarterly report or training seminar?  Business techniques rarely work on individuals.  Hell, they rarely work on a corporate level.

Yeah kinda a joke, I thought it would be funny to do a slideshow because I get nervous with talking about important things.  Also, I once interviewed a band using a powerpoint slideshow and a tape recorder (I wasn't even in the room) and it went really well!

I'll probably just say, hi, this is how it is.

Hahahaha.  There was a time in college I wanted to be a nun (I went through some weird phases...) and I actually made a powerpoint presentation about it for my German class because they were always asking me questions about it.       It actually worked...

But college is the perfect time to come out.  Good luck!

I thought i'd put my 2 cents in since i'm a kiwi too. I've found that kiwis are generally pretty direct but also really open minded. I think if you dont make a big deal of it and just tell it like it is people will generally be ok with it, and if they know you well enough, they probably won't be surprised. I find the less guarded and open you are the better people cope. For some t might help them to figure out whats been different about you. Good luck! 

hey guys, sorry late replies - my internet went down for a whole day.  i was amazed by how much i got done tho!

millsy: i did basically what you said and just presented my art really bluntly and openly and i was also quite hilarious so that helps.  being in nz tho, only 3 people came to class so it was a bit of an anticlimax.

had a really weird experience last night tho. me and my flatmate/close friend tim were out drinking at my friend's girlfriend's mate's place, so a bunch of people I didn't know. since i am not totally out to Tim, only half, i was introduced as my girl name.  Then at the end of the night these girls were like 'are you guys a couple?' and I was like noooo and then one asked, 'so are you a guy or a girl?'

I froze cos Tim was right there and said....BOTH!

Wish I hadn't. Tried to get up the nerve to tell him exactly what the deal is, because he's totally confused. And every time we go out it seems like we're mistaken for a couple of twinks.  Lol.
