i used to be scared of the dark because when i was a child , i believed that things i can't see are burned by light or something , or at least i'll be able to see them .
anyway , i decided to 'face my fears' so i went to the darkest spot on the sea today , i went to a place where you can't tell if your eyes are opened or closed
at first i was so scared , i flenched for every sound , suspicion of movement , or suspecious of hearing a sound , or insects . so i was pretty busy and tell then it was a bad experience .  but then i was like 'what the worst that could happen?'
then comes the real peace ,everything was so silent and thers' nothing that you see , i thought about how awful the world is and how everybody can't deal with life , and how is death A LOT easier , and how it's SO difficult and painful . i felt a light of clarity or hope that i don't know it's source , or maybe fear of death
sorry for speaking a lot and all the ranting , i hope everyone is ok

Gee you sound like me the first time I went into the world as me.  I was afraid of every look, any glance towards me, if they got to close I was in a panic mode.  But the second time I was not so afraid.  The third I was so much more relaxed.

Now I don't ever worry about it.  I don't go out without makeup on, to cover flaws.  But I have realized that a lot of women do.  And I even went out the other day without any makeup on to go get some fast food for dinner.  Yes I was uncomfortable, but not afraid.

So sitting in the dark ( facing your fear ) is a great thing.  Good for you.

sitting in the dark is one of my favorite pastimes. The dark is so peaceful, and it wraps around you like a blanket, and it makes me feel like everything is going to be okay. I love the Moon so much, and I used to love so much walking in the woods at night under her soft light. The world is so alive then, and it's like you have it all to yourself. These days I'm not as strong or as brave as I used to be so I've had to give up my nighttime strolls in the woods, but when I'm sad or something is bothering me, there's nothing like sitting in the dark and just breathing to make it all seem not so terribly bad after all. As my friend Nichole used to say here, I've loved the nighttime too much to ever be afraid of the dark.

The dark tends to be quiet, and I like quiet. It is soothing because I have to deal with so many loud people.

Not afraid of the dark anymore. I used to think satan would get me (mom had all these stories, she meant well but I was afraid of the dark for some time until I went atheist/realized that in Christian faith satan doesn't have a physical form.)

The dark, the silence, the peaceful embrace...
.. Yeah, not a big fan of it. Either way, confronting your fears can always be a good thing if only to increase your frame of reference of it with some fireflies.

Personally I love the non-quiet. I play music most of the time, I live in a city centre near shops so there's always noise - I love it, it keeps my senses alive and makes me feel attached to the world. If I want quiet/silence, I just switch off the lightbulb in my head.

Hi
I also like sitting in the dark. It helps me meditate, I can think without such distraction. I may suggest that the fading of music in your head as you adjust to the dark is the beginning of calm. The 'world' is full of noise and I think we need our brains and minds to recuperate by feeling at rest. But still in thinking mode, not just sleep.

I'm not sure if this is urban myth but people claim to have problem solving ideas when the mind is distracted from the norm, as in taking a shower, soaking in a bath and day dreaming, or just sitting peacefully in the dark without distractions. They work for me :P

I totally feel the same way.  Also I think the dark is comforting for me because it shuts out stimuli, which gives my ADD brain a rest.

I used to sit in the dark and daydream, I remember people asking me why I did that, for some reason sitting in the dark was really comforting. Funny thing is, embarrassed to say, I'm afraid of the dark, I panic when the power goes off and always have a flashlight near my bed. One of my most interesting memories of the dark was when I was hitchhiking, or rather lack of it ha ha, I got stranded at night in between towns, it was so dark I couldn't see where I was going and could only tell I was still on the road by the sounds of my shoes on the asphalt.

Personally, I only sit in the dark when I am depressed.  Light helps me to stay in a positive mood.

light keeps the positive mood , but the good thing about the dark that it clears mind , distracted by fear of the unknown first , i forget everything else and Pam! comes the quiet

I spend a lot of time in the dark, I love to hot tub and swim at night, very pretty swimming in the moonlight.  I work in the dark a lot too.  The dark has a lot going for it.

The night life ain't a good life, but it's my life.

And I need my tub and my pool.  Soak in the tub, swim a bit, soak some more, swim some more.

My GF thinks I'm crazy when I go down and tub and swim in the rain, but I love that feeling so much.

I agree that swimming in the rain is great. Its the lightning that used to get my dad to chase us out. Its not a bad place to star gaze either.

Lighting is very rare here, so that's never an issue.
