Today was my first doctor's appointment to discuss transitioning with my family doctor. I went in, nervous as anything, but once I started to talk about it all of my nerves went away and he took all of the information in very well. He said that he has had transgender patients, but has never helped with the beginning steps of transition. He asked questions like how long have I had these feelings, and how far I would like to go with my transition. He has studied HRT and wants to help me as much as he can, learning along the way. He set me up with an appointment for Monday May 10th to speak with a psychologist, and I'm not really sure what to expect. I also asked him to sign the forms for my name change for proof that I have lived in Ontario for the past 12 months. I'll be getting the name change forms back when I go to see the psychologist and I will hopefully be applying for a name change next week.

What should I expect from meeting with a psychologist?

Be truthful and open.  That is the best way.  The first meeting is usually a getting to know you.

Thanks for the advice Janet. I definitely plan on being truthful and open.
