QuoteFlorida Attorney General and gubernatorial candidate Bill McCollum lamented his decision to hire George Rekers to testify against all gays about a week after reports that Rekers had been traveling Europe with a gay male escort.

Apparently, the whole gay, but not really gay appearance sends off a mixed message.

"I will not do it again,'' McCollum told Naked Politics.
I'll bet!

Standard operating procedure for right wing conservatives: Keep the hate going, mask it as the christian thing to do, but when linked to the fallen: deny, deny, deny.

Bill McCollum was recently selected as the Republican candidate for the gubernatorial seat in Florida after Republican incumbent, Charlie Crist, had fallen out of favor with the GOP.  Crist, an anti-gay rights  politician, is believed my many to be gay himself.  Maybe that's why the GOP dumped him.

Now McCollum has the nod and being associated with finding anti-gay activist Rekkers, who finds his baggage assistant on the gay escort site, Rentboy.com, to testify against gay adoption, is bad for McCollum's campaign and bad for the GOP, who just can't seem to distance themselves from gay Republicans.

BTW, Rekkers testimony against gay adoption was disregarded in both Florida and Arizona because of its obvious bias.  Gay adoption was approved in Florida and McCollum challenged the ruling taking it to the Supreme Court.  Now that Rekkers is tainted, McCollum seems to be questioning his choice.  I guess the the judges who ruled Rekkers is, in effect, a phobe, had no impact on McCollum.  But when it comes to political scandal, a new meaning emerges when you refer to running for (from) office (scandal).
When you judge others, you do not define them, you define yourself.
