And do you think the bottom surgery will ever improve? And do you think it will ever be possible for FtMs to impregnate (spelling?) a woman? Sorry for the awkwardness but I've just been really curious about this. Thanks. Oh yeah..and how long do you think it will take for the bottom surgery to improve?

When on T the clitoris enlarges and that is able to get erections so it's still possible to get them post op with a metoidioplasty. However with a phalloplasty an erectile device is implanted in order to get erections.

As an ftm doesn't develop testies through transition he cannot produce sperm.

I'm not up on how surgeries are going, I don't really know of any huge advancements that make me all jazzed to get work done down there. I guess I'll just wait and see.

I'm not to up to dte on FTM surgeries but as I understand it, in one method they sort of roll a flap of skin inside another pocket and let it heal still attached at the end kind of like a suitcase handle. Basically no, not the same way a natal boy gets an erection, but like Osiris said, there are alternatives that can work.

They also found out a way to make sperm from female's eggs.....so keep your eggs around for later on? I dunno.

I do know, from word of a few really top therapists, that bottom surgery for FtMs is getting better fast. One told me that in 8 to 15 years they should have an options that is completely functional for us guys. Sounds like a long time but it's worth the wait to me.

I'm confused right now where I am myself, between FtM and AG.  I fantasize about having a functional penis a lot and I have a lot of masculine identity/understanding, but I guess the biggest thing for me is I wouldn't have the genitals I could use to be close with someone with a metoidioplasty or have the function or pleasure I want with a phalloplasty.  Impregnation will never be possible, but bottom surgery should advance in the next ten significantly as we learn more about tissue construction.  (I'm studying to be a nurse, future nurse practioner, so I eat this stuff up.)

I think one day it will be possible. In my opinion, by that time transgender surgeries will be much more common.

As far as I am aware the surgery is improving but this is dollar driven. The idea of using stem cells to make organs is in progress but very early. The idea of making testes or ovaries may sound far fetched and I disputed it on another post, the argument being priority. I argued that it would not be a high priority for male (or female) sex organs to be derived but  rather hearts, livers, pancreas and kidneys( And of course neural tissue.) would be the priority. Having said that I then found that the USA  military is spending considerable amounts on such research, because of war fare castrated male soldiers and female soldiers with breast cancer and ovarian cancer etc. I am personally not aware of anything specific, but the USA military usually gets what it wants.

I would suggest don't watch this space but who knows?

That's about how long it will take me to save the money. By then I'll be well into middle age...maybe even retirement age. Sigh.

I think it would be possible in the near future..the way modern science is advancing is completely amazing.

That science advances does not equal people having access to it.  I think that Cindy is right here, the most congenital and wide-ranging applications will come first, and the rest a long way down the road, and don't forget, as I keep an ad up for a 32 bit computer, ONLY $8K+ way back in the 70s - that innovation is VERY EXPENSIVE when it first kicks in, and for a few decades later.

Do you guys ever have any ethical concerns about spending that kind of money on surgery? No matter how much I want it it's really hard to imagine spending that kind of money on myself.

Wouldn't you spend the money you make on yourself anyway? If it really bothers you, you can have the surgeries and then continue to save and give to charity.

Yes exactly. So I don't see it as a potential option for me. Although it would certainly be cool, since it's probably possible.

I would spend the money for the surgeries as its what I want. I have spent a lot of my time freetime in assisting charities and I guess at some point I will go back to that.

Money doesn't disappear out of circulation once it's spent. It's not a limited, exhaustible resource - it's an endlessly circulating fluid. I've never felt guilty about spending money on anything unless it was going to a person/organization that I believe is harmful (companies that use sweatshops, oil companies, etc).

If you pay a surgeon, that money's going to pay his staff, his kids' tuition, his favourite restaurant...it's creating jobs while making you happy. And some of it might even go to charity.

Just an observation from someone stuck in a male sort of body, when I still had sex, the ejaculation was the end of what was usually a really good experience. I'm clearly not the usual sort of male but it would seem to me that not being able to ejaculate and not having any anxiety over it, one way or the other, would result in an extended experience for both of you which will continue until you're both satisfied.

To be honest, I would think that would be a very positive plus. (Reproduction aside of course. But with the availabity of commercial sperm donation, that could be overcome).
