well the good news is as your face gets use to shaving the nicks heal faster i always used mach3 as it gives a better shave in my oppinion plus the weight of the handle is nice it has a nice feel to it. i agree with tekla stay away from the straight razor unless you want permant scaring if you want to exp that their are plenty of barbers that still do that for a fee. personally i detest shaving that to me is the single most masculine thing. and the one thing that made me hate mirrors. id rather peal my face off with a straight razor then have to go threw that again

Totally unrelated but:

My gf's 17 yr old brother asked me to show him how to shave the other day. I did. It made me laugh inside, cause here I was, taught myself how to shave, and this bio male is coming to me asking for advice.

Just wait til that happens to you.

As for shaving...even if you only have peach fuzz, it's a good idea to shave it off. You can tell when you do shave, even if its only peach fuzz. Its completely a myth that if you shave hair, shaving it alone will make it come back faster and thicker. But at least you won't have that annoying, more feminine peach fuzz.

Always exfoliate!  The first time I tried to shave my fuzz I ended up with horrible shaving bumps all over my face and ingrown hairs.  Although my friend said that having a shaving rash was actually helping me pass lol. Now I make sure I hard out exfoliate before I shave and I haven't had a rash since.

Exfoliate? Like scrub my face with one of those scrubber thingys? Lol.

Before shaving, or after, or both?

Before! Just to get rid of the dead skin so you don't get ingrown hairs.   You can use a rough cloth, or a bit of pumice, or olive oil and salt.  Or a product, like that St Ives apricot scrub stuff. Its got coarse walnut shells in it and scrapes off all that stuff like nothing else. I bought some after my mega rash and it helped clear up the bumps and prevent me getting new ones. Shaving rash is just caused by dead skin getting in the way.

I'm weird.  I've been dry shaving with a disposible razor for over a year and I've never gotten a rash...

OMG you guys and your shaving.......  It is one of the vestiges of masculinity I totally detest.  I just don't understand why anyone would enjoy doing that to their face.  But whatever.

I agree with elvistears.  The smoother your skin the better your results will be.  I use the St. Ive's Stuff and love it.  Target also sells their own brand of it which I think I actually like better.  It is not quite as coarse.    I also mix it with Lavender baby wash and scrub it all smooth.

My favorite shave cream they stopped making.  So I have been using Aveeno Positively Smooth.  It is awesome stuff and I love the smell. Just a slight orange scent.

For a razor, I used to use a Mach III, but then the Fusion came out and I love it.  would not trade it.  Remember you have to be able to shave both with and against the grain to get a really nice feel.  (You may not want this, but it is sooo important to me.)

For after shave I use Aveeno Positively Radiant lotion.  I love how it leaves my skin and has a spf of 30.

Good luck!

I shaved dry with a disposable 3 blade razor when it was just peach fuzz, now that it is a bit thicker I just use water with the same 3 blade disposables. I have never gotten a rash or razor burn or nicked my self.
Call me a cheat but I make my own fate.
