Hey guys. If everything goes as planned, this summer I will be changing my name and my gender marker (on the state level). Right now I have one more class to finish up and then I can focus on getting all the paperwork together.
I'm trying to get my name and gender marker changed in the same step. There is no precedent or laws specific to these types of changes for my state (which I will most likely reveal out right sometime later this summer). I have no idea if I should go to the court in my birth county or go to the court in the capital.
What I do know is some of the things I need get. If I get my name changed first, these are the 3 things I need to get my gender marker changed on my BC: the court order for the name change, a letter from my endo saying that irreversible changes/steps have been taken to change my sex, and a letter from my psychiatrist stating your were diagnosed with GID.
If I try to get my name and gender changed at the same time, I will need the letter from my endo, another doctor, my social worker, and my psychiatrist. I will also need a petition on some fancy paper to give to the judge. I still don't understand how that's going to work.
What I have so far: nothing
Upcoming dates: Endo appointment June 16th (I'll be asking for the letter then)
What I need: everything
TL;DR: I'm (hopefully) becoming a legal male with the correct name this summer. I don't have any of the paperwork yet and I don't quite know how it's going to work out. I really just need some support along this 3ish month journey and I will update as I go. No one else in my life is as excited as I am about this.
My question to those who have gotten their name/gender marker changed: What were some of the places that you needed to inform? Not the big ones like DL, SS, or insurances. But the little ones that we tend to take for granted.
