If I took a letter off my birthname I would have had a male name.
I honestly find that hearing my birthname fills me with disgust. I dunno why, I just hate it. So I really had to go with something completely different.

Calistine

I had a really nice birthname so I don't mind hearing it as long as its not associated with me. It was unisex too but I still needed to change it because it didn't feel like me.

Kohitsu

I chose Kohitsu (most people just call me Koh) because it is Japanese, and I'm sick and tired of old average joe male names. Kohitsu is an ancient art form of calligraphy that dates back to the 15th century. How's that for an unusual name? lol

Devin87

I'll just come right out and say my birth name cause I don't have a problem with any of you knowing.  My birth name was Brittni.  I had no problem with it until I was middle school and it became associated with Brittney Spears and every time I said my birth name and STILL every time I say it (because I still present as female most of the time) people say "oh Brittney Spears" and I just hate being associated with that slut.  Even when I was in Germany people who barely spoke English would call me Brittney Spears.  I hated it.  Not to mention all the Brittany/Brittni/Brittany/whatevers I've known have all been fat (me included) so part of me associated it with a slut and the other part associates it with being fat and unpopular.  So I just don't like it.  I've told my mom I wished she would have named me Devin even as a girl because it can be both, although I haven't asked anyone to call me it yet.  The past few days I've been contemplating putting it out there, though.  I'm considering just changing my facebook name to Devin and putting it out there that way, but I don't know if that would be too abrupt or not.
In between the lines there's a lot of obscurity.
I'm not inclined to resign to maturity.
If it's alright, then you're all wrong.
Why bounce around to the same damn song?

Konnor

My name's Konnor Joseph. I kept my same initials and basically the same middle name. I don't hate my girl first name, but it's not me. My name now gets mis-spelled a lot, people usually spell it Conner, but I've dealt with having an unususal first name my whole life so I don't really care anymore. I'm just glad to be called something masculine now.

I guess I chose an unusual name but it was because my birth name starts with "v" and "v.insertsurname" is my signature, so I thought it'll be easier for me lol ;D I also like my initials xD But people always go cool name when I introduce myself, so I'm not too fussed :3

Do most people choose middle names? I never really thought of choosing one since mine's not in English though it is on my birth certificate.

I did... but it was more of a shift than anything else.
[and it keeps my name neutral enough to not make people go "WTF" when they see my legal sex and full name]

Same here.  I haven't decided for sure, but I think that's what I'll do, since I've always liked my birth name and its masculine form.

I've never heard a name that seemed inappropriate, but there does seem to be a lot of Aiden's, with every spelling variation possible, and names that sound like Aiden, but with another letter in front, Like Kayden, or Jayden.

Anything but Maiden, I suspect.

There was a girl in my class called Lee, and she had an older brother called Kim. I thought at the time it was unusual, obviously their parents liked unisex names.

There was a rash of "Kim" for boys after Kipling published his book by the same name. It went on for a long time. I don't know why it started to become more of a girls' name. But I guess that happens a lot.

I've been trying to think of a new name for myself. My English name can be made male by dropping a letter, but I get worried that people will think I just made a typo if I do that. My Chinese name sounds horribly like "failing" (lol), so that's got to go.

Can I claim Slartibartfast?  >:-)

harlee

My birth name is Jasmine...but I can see a lot of jokes coming out of that name already, one being Jas-man, emphasizing on the whole man part of it.

I chose to be called Harlee  8) dunno why actually. I always liked the name Harley but whenever people said "heeeeey harleeeyyyyy" on MSN, I always thought the "y's" looked gross. So I changed it to just double "e"...so it now looks like "heeeeeey harleeeeee" much better! Not much of an excuse but Im a letter freak tho. I hate using exclamation marks after "t's" and "l's", and if just one word has to use a line all of its own, ill completely format the entire paragraph to make it perfect ;D

I feel the same way about my birthname.

Lol, Harlee. Glad I'm not the only one who does that. I'll spend time making an sms fit just so with the character limit when sometimes it would be faster to send two messages :p

My birth name is Dana, and though that is a unisex name, I couldn't keep it.  Too much attached to that name for me.

I think person with the most unusual name I've ever encountered was an old man named Eliezer Krumbein.  I thought that was just great!   :D

I also went to school with a Zoltan.  The name always made me think of Voltron:Defender of the Universe.  But he was a pudgy, timid little boy who carried his teddy bear everywhere he went.

Of course, mine's pretty unusual, too: Jamison Hadley.  Very Fake-British.  :D  But then, my birth name was very unusual, as well, yet similar enough to some common names that I was forever having to correct people.  ::)
