Today I had to go for some pre-op testing.  Last time I went to this testing center was 2 yrs ago, at the beginning of transition, when everything was under my F name.  So I get there today for the tests, and they want my info.  First thing they ask... have you been here before?

That split second before the answer crossed my lips, I thought about all of the discussions on outing onself, when it's appropriate, when not, personal comfort levels, who needs to know, etc, and decided that NO, lab personnel did NOT need to know my history just to take some lab tests.  So I said NO.

And I knew what was going to come next.  Yep, they already have my SS# in the system, under HER name.  So she had me repeat my #, then asked, do you know a Jayne?  Without even blinking I said yes, she's my sister.  Then when she saw the DOB was the same, she asked, twin?  Yup.
Okay.

Let her wonder why the SS had been entered the same as mine.  I wasn't going to inform her.  LOL

So when I went back for the chest xray, they were going to let me leave my T shirt on, but it had a large logo on the back.  So without missing a beat, the tech says, you'll have to put on a gown and hands it to me.  No leaving the room, no nothing.  Awesome!  I took my shirt off, put on the gown, with 3 women in the room.   ;D

I am SOOOOO Glad I did NOT out myself.

Haha....congrats. I wouldn't have outted myself either.

But I thought after name change, your SS also changes?

You keep your SS number even after you change your name. I just did this, and they just update your information and send you a new card. This also updates your information with the IRS from what I understand.
