Recently, a woman who transitioned nearly 40 years ago has been posting comments in a blog I read regularly as well as in some other blogs that I saw via links. She is warning transitioners, late transitioners especially, about how difficult transition is and about how low the chances of success are, and telling people that they should look very hard for a way not to transition. She is sometimes also including a link to a very long online "book" that, truth be told, I have never managed to do more than skim. It's a doom-filled warning to would-be transitioners from about 10 years ago.

I know the commenter has good intentions, and probably the book's author too. Anyone who is thinking of transitioning, especially late in life, really does need to be aware of the pitfalls and difficulties. I know many women born transsexual who are doing very well, but I know some who are not doing well, and although I don't know any WBTs personally who have taken their own lives, we know it happens.
