    Dear Member of Congress:

    We write to you regarding the Employment Nondiscrimination Act (ENDA), H.R. 3017, and Senate (S. 1584). Our purpose is to outline the serious concerns we have with these bills in their current form and why we cannot maintain the position of neutrality we held in 2007.

    For the sake of clarity, permit us first to state two basic tenets of Catholic Church teaching on this issue. First, persons with a homosexual inclination "must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity," and second "nder no circumstances can [homosexual acts] be approved." Catechism of the Catholic Church ("CCC"), nos. 2357-58.

If they are going to enter the political arena they are setting themselves up to be king-hit, (sucker punched I believe Americans call it). The first question they will be asked is about officially sanctioned paedophile cover-ups in the RCC in Boston etc.
If they ever get out from under that they will cop it over pressure on mixed marriages or something similar.
Bad move.

Let me see if I get this right...

We (the RCC) are against discrimination.  But we (the RCC) can discriminate as long as we (the RCC) feels the discrimination is not "unjust".

As far as their fundamental truths comment, shouldn't it be fundamental beliefs? 

Actually I find it amazing, but not really surprising, that the RCC, the same organization that knowingly allowed tens of thousands of kids to be molested by their pedophile priests for decades, to pass judgment on anyone, let alone tell anyone how to live their lives.

That entire letter is the biggest pile of BS I have yet to see from the RCC.  They obviously hope to spin your head around so many times with their "we are following the teachings of Christ" mantra, that you will forgive them for being hypocritical bigots who support discrimination against anyone who doesn't follow their doctrines.

And what in the hell is the RCC, an organization from another country on another continent, doing expressing their opinions about US civil rights?  Who asked them to stick their nose in our business?

They haven't changed one bit since the heyday of the Inquisition and Holy Wars.  They just carry out their agendas with a bit more stealth.

How can religious teachings be considered to be based on "fundamental truths"?
They can be based on "fundamental beliefs" yes, but "fundamental truths"

Maybe you say, "I believe it's the truth."  Then you do that until you get others to say the same thing.  Then you drop the belief part and just say, "This is the truth."  And when enough people swallow that it can become a "fundamental truth".

words do not express the rage. the catholic church DESTROYED my relationship with my parenting partner who i dearly loved...(long story)  but it was in the same vein of bassakwards idiocy as this.

one of these days...they're going to drive me to become a freakin vigilante.....

Were they ever?
Like I say though it will be interesting to see what sort of response they get if they become overtly involved in the democratic process.  Especially since they have not the slightest trace of it themselves, unlike a lot of other churches.
