Iceland, the only country in the world to have an openly gay head of state, passed a law on Friday allowing same-sex partners to get married in a vote which met with no political resistance.

The Althingi parliament voted 49 to zero to change the wording of marriage legislation to include matrimony between "man and man, woman and woman," in addition to unions between men and women.

___

(On a personal note, we allready had same sex union laws allowing same sex legal unions with the same rights, priviledges, and responsibilities as heterosexual unions. This bill passed serves not to create new rights so much as tidy up our legislation and to make all legal unions of two consenting adults the same and thus truly equal.)

The real beauty of this piece of news, imo, is the unanimous vote, and the mention of the simple fact that no one in Iceland cares if our PM is a lesbian. It's never actually mentioned in the media at all really.
It's people abroad who are being all O.O? about it, not us..

My guess it's something in the water...

also, maybe the inbreeding...

We do have some bad stuff though...
Our economy's pretty messed up at the moment, and then there's the volcano, though that hasn't caused anyone any physical harm yet... And if you're not big on daylight all night then you might not sleep so good during the summer... And.. uhm... well.. we're really small, so we don't "have" a lot of things.. I mean.. like... there's only one endocrinologist in the entire country afaik...
But bottom surgeries "are" covered by the national singer payer insurance system...

Good news!  (about the change in law, not the lack of endocrinologists  :))
