I would be a shopaholic if I could afford it.

Shopping is so fun and can cheer you up. What about you?

Shopping is the total opposite for me. Frustrates me.
Unless it's online, in which case I love to virtual window shop.

I guess I'm just a stereotypical guy in the sense that I have to have a purpose before I go shopping. I can't just roam around looking at stuff. I'm often the one picked to do this with my friends and I'm not very happy. XD
I would've gotten the duck. XDD

Materialism is not just the ultimate sickness of the terminally stupid, but the ultimate source of pretty much all social ills.  Enjoy!

I don't really care if I buy anything, I just enjoy the process.

So, it's not exactly shopping per say. More like window shopping.

Hey, if that's a good enough justification for you, then swell.

I should probably let it die here, but I'm curious...

What possible ills could I cause to myself or others by window shopping?

I will agree that the search for objects to fulfil as opposed to people and experiences is detrimental to society. I find that the emphasis on commercial success opposed to self-expression is detrimental to art and culture (although the finest arts and cultures actually seem to have an eye on both sides, pure self-expression tends to be painful up itself) I do feel that the whole culture of 'buying is being' is working to detach a great many people from themselves - but I can't help myself nonetheless.

My expenditure on books, music and films is quite obscene when in comparison to my income and now clothes spending is going up as well. I tell myself that I am filling my head with other people's productions - with good writing and interesting storytelling, swirling it around with good music...but really I just like owning stuff. I could borrow the books from the library - could listen to music on the internet and watch films on telly - but I need to own the stuff and the trouble with owning stuff is that it ties you down, you need a place big enough for the stuff.

The wish then is that I can share and create, and what I create is equal or greater to what I consume, for what is something that only consumes but a parasite.

- Bit of a heavy comment for what was supposed to be a light thread - but oh well.

Clothes shopping, never. Hate it. If I buy clothes it tends to be online, that takes some of the pain out of it. But books, on the other hand? My room already has actually no more room for books, I'm at the piles-on-the-floor stage. Nothing better than spending an hour or two looking around charity shops, reading the blurbs of a hundred different books that could be amazing if I only had the time and resources to read them all! (I'm ridiculously wholesome, I know.  ;))
I know what you mean about needing to own them, Pica. Say it's 2am and I'm having a craving for a certain book, I want that book to be at hand, damnit! I'm fine for music and films because with a little effort you can get those from the internet (most of the time), but books are something separate that a virtual medium could never replace. It makes moving house a herculean task, and I suppose it's way too materialistic to be entirely healthy, but still.
