KARACHI: More than 55% of the Pakistani population says that transgendered persons (eunuchs) should have a special quota in educational institutes and offices, although 60% would not like to be friends with them.

The figures are the result of a survey conducted by Gallup Pakistan.

The question "Some people believe that educational institutes and offices should have a specific/ special quota for eunuchs so that like other people they can get educated and earn a living while others do not think so. What is your opinion?" got a 55% positive answer, 25% negative answer, while 20% stated they did not know.

Kinda suggests that Pakistan is not quite the intolerant, religiously fanitical society we often believe.

Quotas suck, because as soon as they are full (by the absolute minimum of people needed to fill it) the rest (the majority) are ->-bleeped-<- out of luck, no ifs, ands, or buts.

Agreed tekla. But the positive aspect is that a significant number of pakistanis are not fanaitcal and  intolerant.

I think that if 6 out of 10 don't want to be your friend, (a very important deal in that part of the world where friendship is not the casual thing American's regard it as) then that's pretty significant also.  And is this the same nation that when a woman ran for office they tried to blow her up?  Yeah, sign me up for that.
