well i should have insurance again soon and i'm thinking of going to a therapist. only problem is i dont really know where to start. i live with my mom and she can't know about me being trans, so i'd need to go to one that doesn't tell the parents about anything, and one that will actually help me and support me (well, at least not be anti-trans or something). that's why i'm thinking of the gender therapist, but that'd be obvious. is there like a secret gender therapist or something? just need some help here, thanks.

Are you in or near a major city? If so, there's probably a queer youth center or LGBT clinic near you. Google 'LGBT couseling yourcityname' and see what comes up.

If you're in an inconvenient place, Planned Parenthood is very good at helping young people access confidential medical treatment - if they can't help you, they know somebody who can. Start with them if you're outside major population centers.

theres a major city like, 15 minutes away and i know they have a LGBT center, but i don't really know how to get around there and i don't think i'd be able to go there very often. though, i was thinking i'd probably go there once i start college and move out. maybe i'll just wait until then

You know when I first started going to therapy, I thought I would be needing a gender therapist too. But fortunately enough I found a therapist (that my insurance accepts) that goes by "Individual & Family Therapist" but has worked with many transsexual people before (Both FTM & MTF).

I think what you should do is figure out which therapist you can go through with your insurance first, then call them up for more information on what they can and cannot do. And if it doesn't work out, keep trying.

Though I do agree with what Kyril said. If there's a LGBT Clinc near you, that'd be best.

and the Clinic sounds good too, though i'd have to wait at least a couple months. what services/etc do they provide exactly anyways?

Well I don't know about the ones near you but mine provides a lot of services. From counseling to even health services for transsexual people. They even provide a homeless shelter for LGBT youth. The clinic here is also responsible for organizing events and gatherings for the LGBT community.

You should look it up online. They probably have a website for yours too.
