A Time of Change

Like, yeah, we all know change, right? We live and breathe change. But there are times, non-transition times, when any of us, even 10-year postop Admins at Susan's Place get whapped by change.

My husband and I are moving. After 3 winter-overs in our 1BR/ 1BA condo on Maui, we said, "We can do this. The hell with mainland summers that rarely get above 65 degrees F. Let's do Maui full time."

So we've put this WA home on the market - mountain view, golf course home, 1/2 acre, 2150 square feet under $400K, kids - which means DECLUTTERING. Change.

Today, I opened a cupboard I thought was empty. Photo albums, memories, family. Sigh. Even after all these years, memories can come flooding back to haunt. Luckily, I am very secure in myself, my marriage, my life decisions. But memories can be intense when you see your old self in your old life from 20+ years ago. How did I survive those years? Weren't the kids cute back then? And grandbabies.

So I sighed a bit and went to Walmart to buy some boxes and big envelopes. Time to send family history to the kids to be passed on to the grandchildren.

When we walk to the edge of all the light we have and take the step into the darkness of the unknown, we must believe that one of two things will happen. There will be something solid for us to stand on or we will be taught to fly. — Patrick Overton

I'm a grandparent too so I'm coming to that part of my life.

I hate change. I really do. I don't even like getting a new hair cut or buying a new outfit. It always takes me a few days (or longer) to get used to the difference. It really annoys me when brands of clothing I wear change the cut or things like that. I honestly own the same t-shirt in about 14 different colors (and 3 of my favorite color) so I can avoid having to buy new ones anytime soon lol.

I am however good with clutter and organizing. If I lived anywhere near you I'd totally come and help. It took me a year and a half but I finally got my fiancee to start getting rid of things she hasn't used since BEFORE we began dating.

I dread the idea of having an actual house... it's like a whole new way for her to collect stuff *sigh*

Good luck! And definitely make sure you get those items passed on to the kids, we may not admit it but we really love that stuff. As a grandchild I admit this ;)
