The comments on that story are rather disheartening. But not surprising considering the nature of the Sun readership, to a large extent.
I think she is well within her rights to pursue this, regardless of her employment status and whatever else she may or may not be claiming for. If a procedure is given the go ahead then it's not right to stop halfway through. Forethought should have been given to the entirety of the cost involved before agreeing to do it.
Maybe the money she makes from selling her story could be used towards funding it instead, irrespective of the principle behind it, and she can get on with living her life.
