Interesting, lots of mechanics about walking. If you want to see how not do it, watch the opening scenes from the movie "TransAmerica", where Felicity Huffman tries to walk like a women. It's all about being natural and comfortable.

I can only suggest from I've learned from running. People walk through the center of gravity, and in general women's center is in the middle of the hips just above the pubic bone, and men's center is in the abdomen near the belly button. This means women walk with the hips and men with the midsection.  Most runners use the hips to carry the weight and do the work, and it's a simple trick to "sit" on your hips, that is relax your body where the weight rests on the hips freeing your upper body. Walking then becomes natural from the hips, just like a women, and the rest of your body, namely the shoulders and arms will follow.

And if you watch a lot of women you'll see a great variety from the different body shapes of women, including some who are built like men (rectangular or bigger upper body) and walk like men. The key I've found is let your hips carry the weight letting the upper body to move freely. You can see this by moving while walking, turnning you upper body to look around. It's sometimes easier to learn running and then walking during your run, and you know it's working when you feel your hamstrings doing the work and not your stomach muscles.

Just my experience.

I hope I'm not offending anyone in saying this, please forgive me if I am, but "walking like a woman" won't do you any good if you act like a man.  Walk like yourself, be yourself.  It always ends up being something like this, "Oh I'm not passing becuase I don't walk like a woman, etc" never mind the fact that you swear like a sailor and sit like a linebacker.

Men see walking as a task, a means of getting somewhere.  Women, and from what I've seen of gay men, enjoy the journey.  That's all you really need to know about walking like a woman.

"Always".... Hmmmm, actually that's that's the first time I've heard that, I guess I don't hang around many TS girls.

Well if that's all you really need to know then I guess we must have wasted our time putting the article together.  You obviously pass quite easily and therefore have no use for the article, you are very fortunate, but I'm sure that there are some out there who may find the tips provided of some use, then again maybe not.

I get the feeling I walked like a bull in a china shop all over that post.  I re-read it and I'm feeling a little like a fool now.  I would agree walking like a woman is important, actually just as important as everything else.  Its just been my experience that people who are struggling to pass gravitate towards the most minor flaws, as someone else pointed out there are plenty of women that don't walk like women, and obsess about them rather then fix the major ones.

Am I the only one that heard you should keep flushing the toilet in the womens restroom so no one else will hear the sound of you peeing like a man?

This isn't about TS', I'm met or seen quite a few women who looked more male than female in their physicality and manners, and had a female boss for a few years who was built and walked like a (short) linebacker, talked like a sailor, and so on, the Alpha-Male syndrome in a woman.  She was more manly and all the men in the office, knew it, and expressed it.  Many has a very derogatory description about her, but I just said she was the extreme case of Lucy (from Peanuts).

Indeed!  There are so many things that we have to work on in feminizing the man that we have grown to be. For some time during transition, every thing that we learn comes off as phoney.  Every practiced move becomes a tell.  The voice, sitting, walking... all look totally faked and will give you away in a deadly fashion.

When you learn to play music, you have the same problem.  For the first year or two, every piece you learn seems mechanical.  It is a chore for someone to listen to your performance and enjoy it. Musical talent does not display itself until those practiced actions become a part of you .... an extension of your very being.

The same is true for acting the part you intend to play as a female.  You must practice and practice until it does become natural.  You will find a natural way to walk, talk, and sit that fits your feminine persona.  The fact is that we learned a certain set of behaviours as we grew up that helped us interact with the gender assigned to us at birth.  These behaviours can be relearned and replaced.

The breeakthrough for me when it came to walking in heels was weight shift.  Keep the hips loose and shift your weight from one to the other as you walk (but not TOO much!).

If Bessy the cow did that she'd be walking like a model in no time!
