Does anybody live in South Florida or have experience with what it's like to be trans there.  I am from Ft. Lauderdale, so I generally know what the people and the place is like, it's just been a while and when I did live there I wasn't very cognizant of how trans people were treated.

I really want to go back, but I want to live in a trans-friendly area, because why make transition harder than it already is?

you can always come to Sydney- warm beaches, hot surfer boys, and very open minded people with a "live and let live" attitude ;)
Girls rule, boys drool.

Hi Jen,

I live is South Florida. It is a progressive, friendly, diverse and fun place with lots to do. I enjoy it alot.

I had no trouble with my 3 year transition journey and am in the same job I was in when I came out there. My neighbors are wonderfully supportive also.

Out of the 3 SFL counties, Broward County (FTL) is the most progressive.

There is a strong GLBT community. Wilton Manors ( a town within Ft. Lauderdale) is entirely GLBT. There is a large multi-group trans pool party just this Saturday, for those that enjoy doing that.

There are local gender therapists and endos who help with HRT and transition.

Real Estate is the biggest challenge here. We were one of the hardest hit areas of the recession. That can be good for people looking to rent or buy.

As a place to live, I highly recommend it.

Thanks for that Valerie, that's exactly what I needed to hear :).  I'm a Broward Baby myself, so that is probably where I'd be wanting to go anyway.  I love South Florida so much and I want to go back so bad!
