I am out to my mom, but she doesn't seem to quite understand. I am thinking about giving her a book called "True Selves: Understanding Transsexualism - For Families, Friends, Coworkers, and Helping Professionals". It is by Mildred L. Brown and Chloe Ann Rounsley. I wonder if any of you have heard of this book and whether it is any good, or if you have any other recommendations of material that would help her understand.

I have a copy which I bought about 6 months ago and have read several times. Well worth having.

Regarding True Selves, my therapist swears up and down by it and recommends it to all of her clients and their families.

I've read the first chapter or so.  It's a touch clinical but is still compassionate and gives good information.

@SilverFang - I'm not exactly a child (i'm 20), but thanks anyway.
@Renate - That is a good list, some of which I've read (mostly memoirs). did you put that together (judging by your username)?

A recommended the True Selves book to my mom, and the first question she asked me was "does the library have it?" I looked in the catalog and it couldn't find it, although the interlibrary loan system in my state has it. She is thinking about ordering from amazon.com. My mom is very clinically minded, so that should be good. She is always reading some books about various psychological issues. when i initially came out to her, the news wasn't received well and she thought is was just a phase. so I'm hoping she'll give me a chance.

Thanks for all the advice guys.
