what would you do if you had access to nanotech?

If you took a timeship to the future where they had biosafe nanotechnology and all those other hi-tech goodies we don't have yet, what would you do??  How would you modify your body (or mind?) with the nanites?  Anything beyond just changing your birth sex?  Maybe hot-pink organic rubber skin?  Changeable haircolor & nails with just a thought?  The possibilities are endless!  I think nails that change with your mood would be super cool.  Maybe you're a loner, you want radiation-hardened armor and ability to survive in vacuum, go live by yourself on an asteroid to meditate... :-P.

You mean besides take over the world?

Body modifications past the obvious?
Super dense crystalline bone structure... super dense chorded muscle so you don't look built but can seriously kick ass and survive mostly anything. Ability to download any information directly to your brain, and have automatic muscle memory... And the ability to make minor alterations to your outward appearance... (clothing included)

As I said, I'd take over the world.

Hands Up.
How many of us will be the Empress of the Universe.
Ok I'm a wee cynical about the nanotechnology revolution.

There are some who say if we're lucky we'll have nanotech in thirty or forty years.  If we're unlucky we'll have it in ten.

I cannot believe that we as a species could use n-tech responsibly.  Sooner or later we would all end up as grey goo.

There are already worries about nano substances that are used in every day products such as sun screen.  These are capable of passing through the blood-brain barrier and we have no idea of the long term consequences.

For all the wonderful possibilities that would be possible with active nanotech, the dangers are even more dire.  It is worse than atomic energy.  If you could put a nano-fab on a desk, what is to prevent every extremist letting loose a plague of disassemblers?  Even a slight mistake in programming from a well thought out fab could be dangerous.

Yes, it could be a magic wand.  But like it was so elegantly put in MIB I.  "A person is smart, people are stupid."  If you give stupid people a magic wand, what do you get?  Stupid magic.

Yeah, I'm in that one too.  But my alien overlords have already told me if I say too much I'll have to disassemble you.  Sorry.

I did read a super-awesome short story once though where a person creates a species of self-replicating nanobots that don't interact with anything unless they're told but rather just sit there after they've replicated, so they spread out through the universe starting from the origin, and get this, this is insane, the creator was able to use them to create a "force" like in Star Wars, so essentially if he wanted to manipulate things telekinetically on the moon, he could, how rad is that?

Active nano-tech is such an outrageous story idea that most n-tech stories end up reading like fantasy no matter how hard the science is.

Ok, get this, I have a daemon who does my bidding.  I ensnared him using a magic lasso I fashioned out of twigs and leaves gathered at full moon using emoluments I imbued with a spell of binding.  At my mental command he could make an image of me on the moon.

Or...

the creator was able to use them to create a "force" like in Star Wars, so essentially if he wanted to manipulate things telekinetically on the moon

Same difference...

I would give myself dark purple hair...and claws >:-)

EDIT: I can't believe I forgot this...Make my body completely female ^_^

I would give myself the body I want, then I would give myself awesome strength though the body would be slim so you'd have no idea.  I'd have permanently black hair with blue and purple streaks.

And...wings that work properly.  I'm sick of airplanes, I'd rather fly places with my own wings.

I would be a mermaid with wings that could instantly sprout legs for when I felt like going for a walk from time to time... And of coarse I would look like a 21 year old super model at all times  :icon_chick:
