Hi all,

I recently applied to get my driver's license changed with my new name and picture. However, in my province, you can only change the gender on your license AFTER you get the surgery and provide a letter from the surgeon confirming the surgery has been completed.

So, I am about to go full time but will be running around with a female name and picture but a nice 'M' on it. My birthday is coming up and I am planning to go out, and of course that could mean trouble at the bars, restaurants, etc.

Has anyone ever had an issue with this? I don't want my bday ruined by some a*hole bouncer or server. I guess they only really need the age and picture, but the gender marker isn't hard to miss.

Most people who do carding don't look at the M/F statement on your ID... So long as the name matches the picture there shouldn't be any real issues unless you get a picky person.

I've been running around for a year and a half with an ID with an M on it and not once has anyone said a single thing. Bouncers are mostly focused on the birthday, they don't even care about the name much less the gender marker. Once, before my picture and name were changed on my ID, a bouncer looked at my ID, first at the birthday, then saw the male picture, looked up at me, back at the picture, and with a smile said very complimentary,"Nice!" He handed my ID back and let me on it.

My name on the ID is Cynthia and the sex listed is male.
No one looks at the sex on an ID. When you are carded they are looking for age in most cases.
People tend to assume if you hand them an ID all is cool. I ussed to buy booze when I was a teen by just handing them my ID. 9 out of 10 times the person acts like they look but they are not looking, they are doing the motions.
You could have half breed Emu listed on that thing and no one would notice.

If you only know yourself, but not your opponent, you may win or may lose.
If you know neither yourself nor your enemy, you will always endanger yourself.

If I were you, I'd avoid "lady's night" places - just in case somebody catches it and gets a hair up their ass and thinks you're going 'in drag' to try to get in free or get drink specials. That's my plan once my DL is changed. (edit: I mean it would have a female name on it, but, who knows...)

Just stick to regular nights.

Besides, guys will buy you drinks anyway.*

Lol I was reading this at work and physically burst out laughing when I read this. I should try it!

Thanks all, hopefully I have as much luck as you!

UPDATE: I just got my ID back, and of course, the DOB is RIGHT NEXT to the SEX!!! someone is going to pick that up pretty darn fast.

I sort of regret this now.....

I have a issue on using M market ID, which is using credit in the stop. somehow this time, more and more store like to see your ID when you use credit card, so I have to use crash or debit card most of time when I out for shopping in order to prevent being forced out, special if you go to mall or outlet, too many time out to be a male seems can ruin your mood. but I really like to use credit to get some crash back :) do you girls have similar experience?

Tell them that it's against the merchant agreement for a vendor to ID you on a visa/mastercard purchase (same with discover/amex generally.)

If you want, you can inform their management that you'll be reporting them to the credit card company for harassment and violation of terms.

From my experience, suburb shops don't care but downtown (which is i guess more criminal) try to ID everyone.

Carrying cash for that reason IS useful if you don't want altercations.
