Certified stamped copies of your legal name change can be got from the clerk of courts for a fee usually around $5. This is true in all states.

Well, I think a new SS card is free.  A new DL in Texas is like $25 and I *think* there is an additional testing fee of $11.

I have to apply as if I'm a first time ever driver because I let mine expire YEARS ago.

I *think* all I have to present is my Social Sec. card.
I'm *hoping* that they will take that, look at me and stamp my DL with a F.
It could happen, I've heard of it happening to other girls.

While I'm not pretty (and never will be) no one EVER questions my gender.  Even bare faced without makeup.

So I'm hoping for the best.
Dear Giver Goddess of Estrogen, PLEASE let them stamp an F on my license!

Holy Hell. Are they gonna make you retake the road test???
Texas is Pretty rough, But Good luck to you sister :)

PS
What're you Taking About, Dee?!
You are absolutely Beautiful!!  :icon_flower:

Thanks!   ^-^

Well, I have to take ALL the tests again as if I am a first time driver, my old license expired years and years ago and if you let it go beyond 1yr they make you retest and beyond 6 years they consider you a new, first ever driver.  I'm well past that.   ::)

lol! Exactly!
hmm I didnt know that. but thats pretty irritating that they would make you do tedious crap like that again

When (IF) the time comes for me to do the legal change, I'll have a real picnic... I'm a dual citizen - US/Canadian.  That'll be fun!   ::)

My court date is Friday morning. Filed my own paperwork, as the lawyers wanted a small fortune. (I figure if the Judge has to set me straight on some detail or three, I'm out another court fee at worst instead of the better part of a grand for overpriced leg work.)

Hey, congratulations!

Really, I don't know much about the particulars of doing a legal name change, so I can't help you there.  Sorry.  Many of these people here CAN help you.  Seek them out.  They know their stuff.  I learn SO much from them.    :)

Is your name REALLY going to be JOCELYN?  Oh, God, I LOVE that name!  It's SO pretty!

This is the girl I would want to look like if only I could.  Her birth name is ... Jocelyn!  Also, she just so happens to be my favorite modern-era singer.  Jocelyn, meet Jocelyn:

When I do my name change, I'm changing the whole kit 'n kaboodle.  My family (adoptive) treated me like old reconstituted dog crap on moldy rye bread the whole time I was growing up.  Why should I keep their name?  I've chosen a pretty surname.

Anyway, good luck to you!  Let us know how you made out!

Believe.  Persist.  Arrive.    :D

I am happy for you, Jocelyn.  I remember when it was my turn to change mine.  I went to court, and sat there with about 50 other people.  The judge called each one up and asked them to state their old name.  He would then state his decision.   He worked his way through the crowd.  It finally was my true.  He looked up and at me.  Then he called out my old last name.  He just looked at me and said "Granted". *whew*

I never said that name again.

Wow I would Have had so much anxiety...
There Was no more than half of that many people in the court room when i went an I was Unbelievably nervous....
Thankfully my judge was super nice and seemed very understanding...
when i was leaving the court I even saw a few people nod and smile at me!! It felt great :)

on a side note, I wanted to tell you that you are such an Inspiration Ms. Janet :)
I've read so many of your post and your kindness and strength is remarkable

Glad to hear everything went so well!

I actually had to change my last name about a decade ago for reasons that are too complicated to go in to, and I can tell you that the process in Ontario, Canada (at least then) was incredibly easy. I believe it only took a few hours and $200. No court, no judge, just a long line in an office building.

They sent me a new birth certificate, and a certification of name change. Getting new ID was a snap with what appears to be an original birth certificate.

I'm wondering if the process to legally change your sex is as easy... It would be amazing to have a birth certificate with an F instead of an M!

Regarding choosing names, it's SO HARD! I have too many favourites!

I had my last name changed from my biological father's name to my step dad's name when I turned 18, 2 years ago. At the time I was lucky enough to have gone with a friend of my moms who's changed her name multiple times due to multiple marriages. She knew the order of things. Waiting in line at the Social Security office was the most tedious part.

It was such a shame I couldn't just write in a new first name too. I'm still technically not yet out of the closet. I still don't even know what I'd like for a name. Nothing seems to fit yet. For a while I was using Melissa, but that never really felt like it belonged to me. My parents would have tossed me out for sure if I showed up with a completely new name that they never heard before.

I was actually pretty proud of the picture on my ID back then. I forgot to take off the pink dog collar I used to wear to school, and my long, dark, and curly hair was down, it framed my pale face very nicely. I had them save the picture for me when I went to get my drivers permit last year.
