OK so I was going to post this on the FTM forum but then I figured the MTFs might have even better advice  :)  So here's my question: in your experience, do electric or manual razors give you a better shave when it comes to facial hair?

Thanks a bunch,
C

For me, it's been regular razors. Currently, my favorite is the Fushion. I've found that the 5 blade head means less going over the same area again and again. So, I can get a closer shave in less time.

Real bladed razors, without hesitation. Titanium if you opt for disposable.

The best type of razor for shaving my face, in order of effectiveness is:

1) Straight Edge Razor (sometimes known as a Cut-throat Razor)
2) Good quality disposable razor
3) Electric Razor

I also recommend all men have a proper, old school Barber's shave at some point.. It's one of the few obviously male "beauty" activities that feels fantastic..

well, define better. Electrics cause almost no irritation (to me at least) and are very fast, however they cannot get nearly as close as a real blade. Regular razors tend to cause alot more irritation for me, but they are much more effective.

My solution is that I keep areas that are way too sensitive such as my armpits shaved using my electric however areas I can see must use the regular razor as I want to not see that hair anymore. Even then I have to buy the shaving cream with the oatmeal in it or my face will be red and irritated; but hopefully the OP's skin is less sensitive than my own.

"Define better" isn't a bad idea, actually. I'll elaborate on my position a bit in that light.

Pre-estrogen/laser, I often used an electric razor for simple convenience. It would mow down the lawn on my face nowhere near as cleanly as a sharp blade, and more often than not irritated my sensitive skin, but was convenient.

A sharp, clean blade applied with at least moderate skill to a face that is warm, exfoliated well, clean, and lubricated to one's liking (Lubriderm for me, although that's not a common choice. We're all different.) have pretty consistently produced desirable results. My face would be soft, stubble free, and look nice for hours.

For the closest shave I suggest regular, and as Shades said multi blades, but be careful, it is quite easy to knick. Electric I would probably recommend to FtM because they are less harsh and (I may be wrong) most FtM would want some stubble and growth over a few days? Personal choice of course. I use multiblades to get the maximum bare face that I can, but then have to give it away for laser days ???

The strangest device? I was in a store the other day and in the shaver section was an electric razor "guaranteed to leave that sexy stubble look" Mmm the razor you use when you don't want to shave?   Had a cute picture of a guy with stubble on the box
