My mum and I generally have a great relationship, in fact she is probably one of my best friends.. Anyway, yesterday mum and I were out having coffee and she noticed that I obviously had something on my mind. I will admit I have been thinking of how to tell her, but I was far from ready to do it. Anyway, she did the usual thing and asked me what was up.. I tried to pass it off as just having a few things on my mind, nothing serious.. She wouldn't accept this as an answer.. In fact she kept picking away at it, as she sometimes does.. After about 10 minutes of this I was a little snappy and turned around to her asked "How does the idea of having a daughter instead of a son grab her?" and went on to explain myself a little better and give some examples from my life that might help her understand.. After all, she caught me dressed as a girl twice when I was 12 or 13 and found girls clothes in my room a number of times when I was a teen..

She was quite surprised, but did seem to recover reasonably quickly.. She then asked me if I had thought about my name.. Which I have, but I was a little stunned about what I'd just blurted out and said I hadn't really.. She said if I'd been born a girl my name was a toss up between Sibella or Penelope, so maybe I'll adopt one of those as a second name because I don't have on yet.

We have arranged to go shopping on Saturday, so I imagine I'll get a few more questions then.. But at least she wants to see me..

That's really good that she didn't just freak!

Well, at least that step has been hurtled! =)  Now you don't have to fret about how to tell her.

I hope all goes good for you!

I think that this seems to be a pretty good start! BTW, I have never heard the name Sibella, which syllable has the emphasis?
15 years on Susans, where has all the time gone?

Wants to see you? She seems like she accepted you! Of course she's shocked, this isn't an easy thing to take in. But still she seems like she doesn't think any less of you, as she shouldn't since she just wants you to be happy. Congrats!

While it sucks that you're coming out wasn't as planned, I think it went fairly well despite it not being what you originally wanted. So congrats on that! :) I must admit, I am envious about how your spontaneous coming out was! Mine was just well, bah, let's not get into it! XD

I hope you have a wonderful time shopping on Saturday as well. ^^ It sounds like your mother accepts you, despite how hard it is to take in at first.

And Sibella is a beautiful name. o.o I haven't heard of it either, but the way I imagine it being pronounced sounds really pretty.

Thanks for all the positive comments, makes me feel a little better about how it went.. Renate is spot on for pronounciation..

That is totally great news.

You are a very lucky girl. She obviously has suspected for some time that 'something' was going on. Have a great day shopping- are you going en femme?

Hope so, nothing over the top, high heels, cocktail dress, you know the usual shopping stuff

Hugs
Hope it goes fantastically and of course keep us posted.
