I'm pretty sure this will have been old news for those of us in Britain observing transgender storylines in soap, but
Hollyoaks, Channel 4's teenage soap opera, introduced the Costello family on Tuesday this week. Jasmine Costello is yet to appear, but she's transgender and set to transition into manhood - part of a family with three brothers and a step-sister. I gather she won't have come out to anyone by the time she arrives, though.
I don't think I'd watched any
Hollyoaks since it launched, and I dare say I haven't missed much! Some of the storylines seem excruciating to a newcomer like me; but then I watch
Home and Away, so I'm sure I'll adapt! Mostly I watch out of curiosity, to see how
Hollyoaks handles the issue, but I'm also interested in the experiences of my 'transgender opposites'.
