Noted trans activist, Kat Rose, calls out Autumn Sandeen (transgender blogger employed by Gay Inc.) to stop appropriating trans issues to support the gay and lesbian establishment who are employing her to do so.

Today Sandeen wrote a blog entry on Pams House Blend concerning Nikki Araguz, the widow of a recently fallen firefighter in Texas. Nikki's in-laws are trying to steal her benefits, claiming Nikki was "born a man". Sandeen goes on a rant yet again that inaccuratly paints an intersex and transsexual issue in a way that makes it about "gay issues", just like when she used the word "homosexuality" in the title of a blog entry she did about trans women Tiwonge and her lover Steven.

I just don't get this one at all, I'm afraid.

I read the original post on PHB, Kat Rose's comment, and the linked blog post. But I just don't see what's being exposed here.

I think I find the trans activist community more confusing with each passing day. 

Ashley has some issues with homosexuality and the gay movement.

That's all.

Is there really any link between LGB and TG issues? I personally don't understand the connection :S
I feel that it possibly encourages the public at large to associate gay issues with trans issues for no real good reason.
I understand the "come together and fight the good fight", but beyond minority acceptance what else is there in common? We could just as easily team up with racial intolerance groups :S
One of the biggest questions I got asked when coming out was "does this mean you are gay?". And I would have to explain the difference... and yeah there is a difference. imo. I am a straight woman. :S
If a trans person is gay, bi or lesbian then that is their sexual preference nothing related to being trans.

The [[LGB][T]] issue isn't a simple one to hash out with any sort of universal agreement, for sure. At best, it seems nuanced.

Those who know me in meatspace for the most part seem to think in terms of me "becoming a lesbian" in the process of transition (a bit of a simplification, as I'm not violently opposed to male companionship and wasn't before, but I digress....). I was miserable and borderline inept as a "straight guy" but seem to have become quite comfortable in my skin as a trans dyke already.

My understanding of gay rights movement history is that transgender individuals (trans women in particular) were absolute leaders in making the whole thing as we understand it today happen at all.

So for at least a few reasons, I can see there being some interconnection between the two sets.

But there is definitely something to transsexuality that is distinct from sexual orientation.

You call it "educating", I jokingly call it "educating", but really it's forcing your opinion onto other people.. and when I calmly and plainly express that I don't hold the same "opinion".. you then proceed to run me out of the website forum (namely tgboards).
So yeah different views are not uncommon.. the difference is that some such as myself are willing to accept others opinions as just that.

My personal view on this topic:

LGB are sexual preferences/orientations.

T is gender related issues.

Personally I view these as being very different. But that is only my opinion I don't claim it to be fact nor do I go around proclaiming it (except here where it is on topic).

That is incorrect, and an exaggeration of the thread.  Furthermore, you have not been "run out" of the site.  I'm not a moderator or an owner and have little if any at all influence over such, so near as I can tell you are still quite welcome there.

At no time have I ever denied you the option of a personal opinion. That is an outright fabrication and lie.

You may have felt uncomfortable there, and you may feel like blaming me for that, but that, my dear, is your personal problem, not mine.

Apparently a transwoman who was married to a fallen firefighter in Texas has been referred to as a gay man involved in a same sex marriage on a website and the family of the firefighter is trying to deny her spousal benefits

Whether or not she is entitled to benefits is certainly part of the issue...

But to be miss labeled by a lgb site is an issue all it's own... I'd be pissed also

Well, Autumn, herself, is trans, and generally doesn't say such things, so keep that in mind, as well as the fact that Autumn's only link to "Gay Inc." is that she writes for a blog.

My brain melted from trying to follow the train of thought and URLs involved in a blog page about a nested comment in a page on another blog, so...

I tried to follow the points it seemed people were trying to make, some of which proved... challenging.

So far I come away feeling that:

• marriage law is almost fundamentally flawed to begin with in order for this sort of legal snafu to have even taken place; and
• may the gods help anybody who gets caught blogging about gender issues.

But I think I made it far enough to determine that:

• UPI reported that a widow was in a financial twist because somebody alleged her to be transgender and therefore magically disqualified from survivor benefits;
• a PHP blogger featured this to make the point that if somebody can even claim that your marriage was, at some point in transition, same-sex, you can have a problem on your hands; then
• full-contact activist verbal slap fighting commenced in comments; and
• somebody wrote a page in another blog about one of the comments, seemingly making the point that the PHP blog post shouldn't have been written to begin with?

At this point, I remember my therapist saying something about how sifting through this stuff leads to anxiety.

But I learned a few new forum tricks.

Remember, it's OK to express differing opinions, however no personal attacks or topic will be locked!
