I've heard that anti-androgens have a positive effect on oily skin, but could they be considered a replacement for acne treatments? I ask because my doctor didn't get back to me about the referral (story of my life) to the dermatologist's, so I can't get in for an appointment unless it's for laser/cosmetic treatments. I'm hoping I can just book my own appointment to get the scarring treated, then let the anti-androgens prevent future problems.

I know that Spironolactone is sometimes prescribed to treat "hormonal acne."

  I always had mild acne problems but they cleared up completely after I started HRT.

Ive tried many anti acne things. Spiro topped the list as most effective by far. It is sometimes prescribed just for that reason but I just saw it as a nice side effect to the main reason I took it

I suppose that I need help on this. After three weeks of hormones I am still having acne with me, and this is disturbing me a lot.

I guess that my body is still dominated by Testosterone... should I see the therapist and suggest a larger dosage?

It will help, less testosterone means less oily skin means less acne.

A friend of mine who is a transitioned mtf is still using Androcur even after her SRS because it has helped with her acne and she fears that stopping Androcur will have a negative effect.

I would guess it has something to do with changing the skins oil production as testosterone levels go down.

My skin has turned from oily to normal during my HRT, even dry in some spots. I need to moisturize more nowadays.

As anyone who has experienced HRT can attest, hormones are amazingly powerful chemicals!

Three weeks, however, isn't anywhere near long enough to judge their effectiveness. It was almost two months onto HRT before I noticed any changes at all and even then they were very subtle.. it was about 6 months before I noticed any skin changes. Have patience, Grasshopper :-)

As for the friend still using Androcur... That's powerful (and potentially damaging)  stuff!  If she got her T levels checked I bet she'd find that there's no necessity for it. I've heard of post-ops staying on low-dose Spiro to kill whatever the adrenal gland produces but not Androcur.

I'm on zoladex and find that I have better skin now than previously. When the implant is wearing off the spots start to come back. Fortunately I won't have that problem much longer .

I am quite concerned about this as I believe that now when she's had her surgery she doesn't need to use it anymore.
But she told me she wants to keep taking it (low doses but still) because it has helped clear out her skin and reduce body hair growth.
I have told her that now when the testes are gone her testosterone levels will never again have such negative effects on her body.
But I can't get through to her.
