Ok So this Might be a ridiculous question but...

Is it possible to make your rib cage smaller? or has anyone tried any techniques such as corsets that they can recommend?
I've always had a hatred for my ribcage and As i Am not terrible endowed in the breast (but I'm comfortable with the size) and have some hip gain since HTR my bulky rectangular ribcage dominates my body.

yes it is possible i went from a 38 to a 34 and my ribs packed in a bit more, but it is time consuming and painful, so its not for everyone.  Obviously to get the lower ribs you use a corset and tightlace (double lace and get that sucker as tight as you can), then you use belts below the breast, you cannot bind your developing breasts, thats not good, so the best you can do is below them.  Every night i used 3 belts to get all the sections i wanted and tied them as tight as i could without really causing too much breathing problems, basically exhale, put on belt inhale, if you feel a little pain ok, if its too much loosen to one more notch.  It wont feel comfortable trust me, but it works over time, i wore it mostly in my sleep so 8 hours a day.  My ribs look a lot better then when i started and as your breasts fill out your shape will be even better.

Best place for me was fredricks of hollywood, but they make corsets for binding for online order, but i preferred to go in and see how it fit, also as i got smaller i needed smaller corsets.  So i went to the local fredricks for it.  Trying on lingerie in general was fun too ^_^b.  I use two things actually, since binding really tight irritates the skin i purchased one corset that covers the breasts down to my pelvic area, then i got a another corset for my waist.  I put on the first one to generally lightly bind my body (dont tight lace)  and then i put the waist one on top of that one, then you dont get your skin irritated and its not as uncomfortable plus it looks nice, i can wear stockings and stuff and my fiance thinks its hot, hell he thinks its awesome i wear sexy lingerie to bed every night lol.  Then i do the belt binding.  since the corset covers my breasts the belts dont dig into my skin.  Make sure you get a corset with metal ribs though! It can be flexible metal but use metal it helps maintain shape.  For the waist one, non mental is ok, just cloth since your only binding your waist.

Here is what my body used to look like:

I am quite amazed at the transformations I've seen on this site. You all look so beautiful, it gives me hope!

In regards to tightlacing, my wife was into it for a while, and I have always wanted to do it, so I've done quite a bit of digging on the subject. If you google tightlacing I'm sure you'll find a plethora of information, but the following are some points I recall from my reading many moons ago. (and by moons I means YEARS so please do not take the following as pure fact!)

  • Although you can tightlace with a standard (well, at minimum steel boned) corset, many are not meant to take the strain. In fact, even steel boning is often a woven steel, which is very malleable. High quality tightlacing corsets often use a more rigid/solid piece of steel, and are usually made to order. This means a good tightlacing corset usually starts at over 200. A less expensive off the rack corset usually can make a good starter corset though.

  • There are corset liners you can buy to help avoid the chafing. Moisturizing before putting it on also helps.

  • You can get an underbust tightlacing corset, so you don't have to worry about your boobs or using a belt.

  • If you are just training the waist, you can start with a heavy duty belt until you can get an appropriate corset.

  • It can take a year or two to achieve permanent results. Wearing 23/7 speeds this up a bit - I say 23 because you should exercise daily without the corset to keep your muscles from atrophying.

I'm sure there are many more important points I am neglecting, and as mentioned my memory may not be 100%, but hopefully this helps somewhat. I'm planning on tightlacing once I start HRT, and am happy to hear it really works. Thanks for the pics Izumi!

Let us know how it goes!

when a tiny waist was de rigeur for Victorian ladies they were wont to swoon and faint - turns out they were severely restricting their innards...the kidney of these ladies used to have a definite step in it to correspond to the top of the boned corset...
while I'd love a small waist I doun't want to start having conniptions and being forced to inhale smelling salts.

Izumi, I showed your before/after pictures to my wife because you looked very much like I do right now. Your transformation to me is stunning and inspirational. I hope I can get similar results. The wife actually mentioned that if I end up looking as good as you, she might consider going lesbian!  :D

No on is more surprised then me, i didnt think i would turn out anywhere near where i am now, i just promised myself i would do anything and everything i could to be the woman i wanted to become, that way at least if i failed it wouldnt have been for lack of trying, and i could always do surgery after to fix some things.

So 2 years ago i started working out 5 days a week, then toned it down to 3-4, used corsets at night and tightlaced, laser/electrolysis, 6 months later went on hormones, never missed a shot or a pill (if i couldnt get the shot, had pills as backup), waxing, hair, makeup, cloths, and diet.  Never been through so much struggle in all my life, but now i am nearing the end, and everyday the disforia gets less and less, i am sure after my surgery next july i will finally be rid of it.

I guess there's hope for me then, I'm pre hrt and I've lost 13 pounds and my under bust is now 32" inches and I want to get down to 30, so hopefully with muscle loss and a good corset I'll get there.

Hey, Izumi, my rib cage is currently at approximately 37" and I haven't started HRT yet...

Is there any chance that tighlacing can help me to get a smaller torso? I just turned 18 a couple of days ago, my age might help :P

Frances

I am super interested in this subject as well. I am very self-conscious about my upper chest size. When I was an adolescent, a doctor recommended all sorts of breathing exercices combined with weight training to get my rib cage bigger. He thought it was too small. Part of me was hoping that it would me feel like a man. It was the same thing with my arms. There was a lot of pressure to build muscle. Imagine a girl ever hearing that!

So now I have a 38" rib cage, which makes me angry.

Izumi, can you describe the belts you were using?

Felly

I'm also quite interested in doing the same thing. Starting with the belts....

Question is, should I start now or wait till I've lost some weight? I will get around 32" under bust in a couple of weeks/months, but getting down to 30" would be even more awesome, seeing as I still have fat/muscles to loosen up.

But since I've already started taking the mones I've grown small mounds, so measuring the actual size (that I want to know) is even harder... I seem to be 36~37" atm.

So yeah.. what kind of belts are we talking about? :O

Age is a big factor, and yes any tightlace over time will help, your adjusting how the rib cage sets, you have to wear it a long time everyday, for me it was a minimum of 8 hours, but most say wear it all day.  I couldnt but yeah all day for better results, it is not the most comfortable feeling.

since i find that some corsets dont provide the coverage in the spots i like, i just use leather or cloth belts thicker the better, make sure they have a strong buckle too because i ruined at least 2 or 3 belts doing this, so basically a thick leather belt with a strong buckle works the best.

Start as soon as you can, it can only help, but remember this kind of stuff isnt the healthiest thing to do to your body, after all pain is your body's way of saying your doing something not so good to it, but it does work over the long hall, i went from a 38 to a 34~  and my waist was a 32 now between 28 and 29.  1.5 years.

LordKAT

32" underbust is quite normal for women. Why torture yourself for more.
  •

Felly

Perhaps, but then again my ribs are still poking out as my ribcage isn't just wide. As I started losing weight they got a lot more defined which made me look like some anorexic person while still having a ton to lose.

Oh yeah I almost forgot to tell, it's the ribs behind the breasts that are annoying me the most, so if I can compress those ribs it'll be like heaven. Now I just have to find belts with buckles that don't leave nasty marks... getting the waist/under bust under control seems to be much easier. I'll get a 32" under bust from just losing weight (fat/muscles).
  •

spacial

I don't want to put a damper on anyone's ambitions, but this sort of thing can be incredably dangerous.

The rib cage expands to accommodate the organs it protects.

This sort of thing should never be considered for anyone much past their teens. That isn't to recommend it for teenagers. But past teens, and your bones and organs have more or less set.

Whatever you do, take it slowly. Don't try to tighten things too much. Gradual.

If you get any sort of discomfort, difficulities breathing, heart pumping, sickness or nausia, them loosen off quickly.

I somehow don't think the biggest problem will be the chest, it will be the shoulders.
