So I haven't really started any sort of transition (although am in the process of setting everything up with a good gender specialist) and voice is something you can work on at anytime.
I tried a bit in the past with youtube videos (candifla, etc) and had no luck.

I know there's things out there to help you find your voice. Anyone have any suggestions? Would any of those DVDs (like TSRoadMap) be any good for helping me get started? It'd just help a lot to have some sort of guide to get me going with it all since I'm not sure how to start.

I used the Deep Stealth CD, and it did help.  Also Kathy Perez is very good.

If you have the $$, Sandy Hirsch is awesome! Her website is: http://www.givevoice.com . She is based in Seattle but she does Skype sessions too and even though I live near Seattle, I still used Skype for most of our sessions. Thank you both! But really it was Sandy that helped me do it.

I started voice therapy with her in December 2009, doing it once a week and I probably began feeling more comfortable with my new voice by March or April of 2010. I started seeing Sandy less and less and now not at all until I can scrounge up the money to have her help me with singing alto someday.

Of course, it takes lots of practice too. I was trying to talk in the new voice all of the time outside of work and at some point I was accidentally using the new voice at work and getting weird looks so that became the excuse i needed to finally transition at work (February instead of April like I had planned haha!).

Wow, I'll second (or, I guess, third, lol) that vote - your voice is amazing, and I can't believe in the second video you're talking about trouble with passing - you look fantastic!  I didn't listen to the whole story about the jerk, but I sure hope I can be as pretty as you... (and sound as natural)

aww thanks girl. Yah its still been hard sometimes. =(

That's an amazing result from voice therapy.  I wish I had the kind of voice that could have benefited from voice therapy like that, but even after years I could not get quite there.  Good for you.

My voice teacher will play back my old voice for me sometimes and I'm like WHOA who is that guy?

I have to admit that the voice came easier to me than most... I've always done impersonations and character voices so crossing into female only took a few weeks to find and a few months of practice to perfect.  For what they're worth, here are a few things I figured out...

-- To find your voice you have to figure out where the voice comes from... It's an actual location... Your natural female voice is higher in your throat and farther forward than your male one.

-- Try to impersonate cartoon characters first ... I found that Spongebob and Bart Simpson originate from the same "place" as my voice now. Once you find them, it's easier to find the girl :-)

-- Men resonate from their chest, women resonate from their head.

-- There's a CD by Melanie Anne Philips that I found helpful, although not revolutionary.. it's about $10

  Like a few have said... plan on months of practice before you get it good enough to pass... I practiced every time I was alone in my car.

Yes, I managed to think of that one too - it's one of the very few places where one can count on complete privacy.  The real trick is to hear how you sound - the only way to really do that, I think, is to record yourself.  Something I haven't yet managed...
