Good for you!  That's a point we all must reach sooner or later, I think, and I'm reaching it myself.  I'm finally realizing how pointless it is to stay cowering in the shadows, when happiness lies in the sunlight, and Colleen wants to dance in the sunlight!   Best of luck to you - you GO, girl!

I think it's a good idea just get everything sorted out ahead of time! :]  I'm a slacker and am gonna be pushing some things close for when I go to my new school.

Cool. I think we all reach this point at different times. I've felt the exact same for awhile. You need to do what makes YOU happy. period.

Umm not to be rude or anything but, are you sure you want to do this now?

I mean, it's your life and everything but, if I were you, I'd calculate the risk before doing it.

Remember that the world can be a dangerous place for us, and I believe that it's not worth it to speed things up and take unnecessary risks.

College is about the safest place I can think of to do this.

If whatever college you're attending is liberal/open enough, then I think it's a great idea. better to start things off the right way, than to transition 1/2 way through when you're already established. that's how I see it at least. 

Well, that really depends... not all the colleges are like that (at least in Mexico, for example, a trans friend has huge problems to stay at the ITESM and get her degree, just because she's trans).

All I say is, think about it carefully and calculate the possible outcomes of this action, that's all.

But seriously... College is one of the places that people expect to see changes in others... That is if they're not to preoccupied with their own trip to even notice

If your serious about transitioning, I'd say the sooner the better 

Yeah, I thought about the risks and I decided to look into that area of the college. Apparently Southern Polytechnic State University has school rules in place to protect Transgendered persons. Also, at orientation I made a couple of friends that already know and accept me ^_^

Yeah, I've looked into the risks and I've decided that not transitioning soon will be worse.

College should be the best and safest place to transition as you will find there are people from every part of the gender spectrum and their daily presentation will also range all over the spectrum tooo..so rather than sticking out and being and oddity you will blend in and be just a student.

Personal 2 cents worth - that's the best thing you've decided.

I transitioned before hormones and indeed before I had completed my electrolysis. It was tough but having come through that I knew i could face anything that might come afterwards.

Without wishing in any way to denigrate the value of some forethought and planning, in my experience there do tend to be two basic choices in life. Get on and try things, or sit around talking about either how you are going to do them one day, or eventually why you didn't.

Yeah, I understand what you mean. Sometimes you need to throw caution to the wind and just jump right in ^_^

I'm with Tekla and Rejennyrated. But I'm biased cuz I decided to take it as it comes rather than try to plan out every little thing. If you're well informed and at least of avg. intelligence you should be fine! These days there tends not to be a lynch mob waiting for us when we go fulltime.  Best of luck with everything

I totally agree, college is a perfect time. Time for Samantha to blossom.

Students tend to either accept or ignore. Teachers at College & Universities are very accepting of change and exploration in students, and also are very aware of the problems the age group have in self acceptance and needing to become independent adults. You also may end up with a Prof like me, with totally no understanding of GID.

I would agree that college is a great opportunity. I pretty much did this, and nobody batted an eyelid. At universities you can look awful and still be one of the more presentable people in the room and you will probably find support from student groups and such. If you leave it until afterwards you will find yourself either transitioning while looking for a job or transitioning while clinging onto a job. Of course you need to consider your safety, but definitely do not waste this opportunity!

Good luck girly!! I'm jealous! If I lived in a more trans friendly area I'd be doing the same. I gotta let my hair cape grow some more too!
