I am 38 years old and have been in my job for over ten years. I'm fairly well known within this job both at this firm and other firms throughout the city. Now, because the job involves a lot of communication both with the drivers that work here and with the public nothing is kept private for very long. So there have been drivers and public knowing me/seeing me as female for the last ten years. Bearing in mind most of our customers are drunk when i see them and some can be obnoxious with it and most end up asking if i'm male or female i know that when i start taking T and the changes occur its not going to be an option to keep it private. If i was younger I would consider moving away and starting again but i have made my life here. So is there any advice for when the s**t starts? The people at work are already calling me by my new name but as its Alex which could be either /or no one has actually realised what i'm doing yet.

Smile, be charming and be very good at your job.

Unfortunately in this job we do. Because i work the night shift there are only about three or four of us actualy in the office, so we tend to spend a lot of the night talking to each other. Then i'm on the radio to the drivers and they all know who should be on the shift at whatever given time so if my voice starts to change they'll be asking me about it over the radio while theyve got passengers in the car. I just get the feeling that at some point the entire city ( its not that big a city) is going to get to know and i'm not sure how to handle it

well, anyone who has already met you is going to find out no matter what. are you concerned about people you haven't met, like clients, finding out. Have you considered talking to all the drivers about it before hand? then they wouldn't be discussing it over the radio. I'm not sure exactly what your concerned about, but it's possible that it's something you can't fix. I hope things go well though, once you start t.

Think i already know the answer was just looking for ways to avoid that reality. Basically, if i stay where i am then everyone is going to know so i either stay here and risk the s**t or move away to where nobody knows me and hope that nothing outs me.Think i just needed to say things out loud to get them into some kind of order in my head. Thanks everyone
