I'm trying to quit smoking and my doctor just perscribed me Prometrium. I noticed I've been extremely bitchy lately towards people since I quit smoking. Today is my fifth day of no smoking and I realized I was acting crazy the other day. Any ideas on how to keep my emotions in check before I kill a customer and serve them?

OK interesting!  why is he having you take a progesterone as a stop smoking aid?

You will go through a bitchy period for about a week, which is when the body is learning to function without the nicotine.  But by adding progesterone it could increase the edginess.

I should have explained more.........I decided to stop smoking because progesterone increases my chance of blood clots. I think the combo of both is driving me nuts. I tend not to get angry easily, but right now I'm a lil unhinged emotionally (as I have been the last several days) but I have been on progesterone for a month. Any suggestions on how not to go completely nuts?

Plus, I'm using a nicotine aid and usually my quit attempts (even while just on estrogen) are not like this. Like I feel nuts, laying in bed trying to cry and such.

I find prometrium, which I also take under its UK name of Utrogestan, has if anything a very calming and mood enhancing effect on me.

Just goes to show that we are all slightly different. It was when I was off progesterone that my moods and depression got bad.

My guess is it's the withdrawal from the ciggies more than anything else which is the problem.

I'll probably be fine in a few days, I'm already better now. Turns out I was getting sick anyways. Probably just all three combined.

I started on Prometrium 1x a day and it had a definite calming effect. The last 2 weeks I began it 2x a day and I've been a bit more emotional than usual. Sometimes it's hard to figure out if I would have been that way anyway though, what with my grandma disowning me and a few other things going on
