I have had my name legally changed, and last semester at school (college) when roll was called I had to correct them, ugh so annoying and embarrassing.

So I was thinking, maybe the people in the class will assume I am just a feminine sounding, kinda soft looking cis male? becuase I wont have to from the first day have my name called "Maggie?.. 'oh no, I go by Elijah' "

what do you guys think?

It's definitely worth a try, I think you look pretty passable. I suppose it depends on just how girly your voice is, that's always my downfall when I try and go stealth.

i think you'll pass fine and your male name will seal the deal for everyone who pays attention. i never pay attention when they tick off the name lists (only listen for my letter to come up) and we're usually addressed by last name, but those who hear it surely won't doubt it. by the way i think your name fits you really well.

I understand your concern, but there's not much you can do about how they read you. If they read you wrong, they will probably assume that you have a slightly exotic female name. If they're not sure, they could still go this route, depending on how well you "pass" IRL.

But you can set the stage early on by referring to yourself as male during the first week. Do it as naturally as you can, without its seeming contrived. Act as if there's no doubt whatsoever. Come across as casual and confident and unconcerned. Pretty soon, it ceases to be an act and becomes reality.

I think you will pass just fine :), i know bio males with feminine voices, i wouldn't worry about it if i were you.

Basically I have found that if you believe it then others believe.  If you approach it as you are a guy no question about it most people will just accept it.  Even if you do have a high voice and someone calls you Maggie.  Most people won't argue with you if you state confidently to their face you are male.   For after all, what do they know?

Using the bathrooms and / or locker rooms might take a bit more strategy if you hang around with the same people a lot.
