One sister down...

I guess this weekend's been busy for me.

I went to the other sister's house on Friday night, and asked my nephew what had happened after I left the gathering.  "What d'you think?  They were all over me!!  But I just answered, 'Go ask the source'."

Dinner was good.  We all caught up on the doin's since last we met.  Kate's new husband, Steve (same name as my nephew/Kate's son,) and his daughter Ellen (college) played nephew-Steve three-way in an XBOX Star Wars game after dinner while Kate and I chatted and kibitzed the game from behind the couch.  Steve's son Joe (just junior-high?) was in the bedroom around the corner, absorbed in the computer.

Kate made a few comments along the way about my hair, glasses, and the pants I was wearing.  My stock answer was something like thank-you-glad-you-like-it each time, but sincere.

I was helping her put away the table leaf back into the coat closet (small house + many possessions = tight space,) when she whispered, "Okay, what's really going on with you?"  In that living room, with people I barely knew, I dodged.  I knew Steve (nephew/son) would provide the 'Go ask the source' message.

The next day I called her on her cellphone.  She said "I've been meaning to call you, but today's been to busy so far."  I said I wanted to give her the opportunity to re-ask the question from the night before, and offered to come over.

They're trying to sell the too-small house, and the Realtor had called with potential buyer, so they had to vacate.  I met them at Target nearby.  Steve-husband had to take his kids home, so I gave Kate a ride back to her house.  After 'the talk' and answering all the questions she could think of, I gave her the letter and said I'd be happy to answer any questions she had at any time.

We agreed the other sister (from Thanksgiving,) was riskier, being that she was very Christian (and some other things... )  Then we fell to talking about other personal stuff.   And while we talked, I got to thinking we'd actually been more like sisters to each other growing up, though neither of us knew it.

Karen,

It all sounds pretty positive so far. Good for you! It is great when family members are accepting, and want to understand.
