Getting my hairline cut/shaped into a masculine one?

Going to a hair school tomorrow to get my hair cut and would love to do do that. I've noticed it mentioned in a few threads but never one specifically about it. Anyone have experience? I just want it cut back a bit since I am pre-T. I stick with something similar to a crew cut lately because I figure it's the perfect excuse as to why I don't have sideburns but it makes my hairline entirely obvious which is why I want to get it shaped to a more masculine hairline. Tomorrow, if I do it, would be my first attempt ever messing with my hairline. I really want to and think a professional stylist could do this but I was wondering if anyone had any good/bad experiences. Thanks  :)

The only time I messed with mine was as a teenager, and that was actually to make it more feminine (was born with a classic male hairline complete with widow's peak, probably perceived it as more masculine than it actually was due to seeing myself as male, was self-conscious about presenting as female with obvious male traits, so I plucked the offending pointy part.) I stopped doing that when I cut it short, and I have to say having an obviously male hairline is probably one of the characteristics that contributes most to my passing.

As far as having a stylist masculinize it: I understand that it's fairly common (standard?) for black men who get short haircuts to have their hairlines adjusted/defined in the process. I haven't heard of/seen it being done for white/Asian/Latino guys. Presumably the process would be the same, but if you have dark hair on fair skin like in your avatar it might not be as successful because your hair could show through the skin and create a "shadow" effect even if it's shaved smooth in the adjusted areas. That's something to check with your stylist. But if you can get a good effect, then I'm sure it's worth whatever trouble it takes to get it, short of waxing or plucking.

Thanks Kyril,
Though I am kind of pale my hair is actually medium-dark brown (that pic was horribly dark :( )so I think as long as I get it done often enough it won't show... I hope. I'm one of those guys that would have no problem getting my haircut every week if I could afford it. I guess tomorrow I will find out and if it's horrible... well I have a lot of baseball hats to cover it up. I'd love to be able to pull this off minus the facial hair (for now) but I'm not sure I could. It's my ideal cut. Sorry it's small.

The last time I had my hair cut I had it cut by a black man. I loved how it turned out actually. He squared out my hairline and cut what little sideburns I have into those thin lines you see on alot of black guys. I'm not sure if it's entirely common for a white man to have, but hey, I liked it. I started doing this a couple weeks ago, with pretty good results. My hair is very light brown naturally, so as long as I shave it every week or so it doesn't show. I tried using hair removal cream and it didn't work, though. If you do it yourself, just make sure you do it carefully and little by little so you don't end up bald. 8D
Also, in the past couple weeks I've passed about 50-75%, where before it was about 2%. Granted I was vacationing in an area with a lot fewer gender variant people, but even my mom barely recognized me in pictures (she told me she looked at my facebook and said "Wait, who's that boy?")

Thanks guys :) Went ahead and got it done. I'll post pics up somewhere of it. Maybe in the Do I Pass thread

I'm pre-T aswell -- The front hairline, depending on length, doesnt matter as much as the back now-a-days. I've seen a lot of regular guys with pretty feminine hairlines up-front. The back hair line, which has to be cut every so often to keep from reshaping *My hair grows like wildfire, so I have plenty of expierence*. Tell them to be sure to clean up after the cut. They'll shave away any long hair remains, then flatten or straighten the tri-angular hair line. :DDD  It feels funny when the buzzer hits the back of your neck -- But it feels nice and clean~ :DDD

Hope this helps~ *Unless I'm too late~*

What do you mean by "thin lines", could you post an example of that? (We do have a few black guys here in Germany, but mostly directly from Africa and most of them don't have anything beard-like, just conservative short-cut hair and beard shaved.)
