My eyebrows are so light and blond that I can barely see them enough to do anything with them.  What can I do to darken them a bit, but not look like I am wearing makeup?

You may try eyebrow pencil. It is not so much noticeable.

Here some women shave their eyebrows before applying eye pencil. They look cute to my eyes.

I once tried to apply eyebrow pencil, and people commented that it is too excessive as my eyebrows are already too dark. Instead I just pluck fine hairs under eyebrows.

Just do it.

I use a very narrow brush and dark eyeshadow.  Use the brush and very lightly apply, mincing hairs.

I very lightly apply with the side of a light brown eyeliner pencil, just to give them a noticable tint. I've naturally got bleach-blond eyebrows that are almost invisible. I've tried those muddy eyebrow pens with a brush but it didn't work as well for me.

You can get kits to dye your eyebrows but this is long lasting.   I agree with using a dark eye shadow and brush to give a softer look but most days, I use an eyebrow pencil.    If you have very blonde brows, beware using a dark colour of pencil as it will not look natural.

My theory of eyebrow care:

  • Use a little electric eyebrow trimmer to trim the hairs to the same length.
(The device is like a fat pen with a single AAA battery.)
  • Pluck.
  • Use Maybelline Ultra-Brow brush on color.
This is a solid powder in a small rectangular compact with a tiny brush.
It goes on much smoother and consistent than eyebrow pencils.

Thanks for the info!  I need a book that tells me what is for what:  mascara, eyebrow liners, blush, foundation, etc., lol.  Really, its the stuff around the eyes that I am week on - I'm getting a handle on the other stuff.  I may try the light eyebrow liner - I just need to tint them enough to see them - I can't even pluck or anything they are so light, lol.

I can't find red eyebrow pencils to save my life..   :-\

I found a L`Oreal brick red pencil but it crumbles when I try to sharpen it and it just frustrates me to no end.
I need a red pencil because my hair is very, very, very bright flaming red and black or brown brows look bizarre.

Anyone know of a GOOD brand red brow pencil?

I wonder if you would be better off just getting a dye job? I guess if your brows are thin that won't do. mmm... What if you got a lipstick liner and used that?  I'm sure that would work, or red blush? Go to a makeup counter and ask them for advice, they might have have some tricks or innovations for you.

"Eyebrow Powder: Brow powder is always a matte powder with high color pigments. You can also use an eye shadow that is matte and matches your hair color. Eyebrow powder provides the most natural look. Apply with an angle eye brush and with light strokes. Blend with an eyebrow brush."

Oh, if you find an auburn or blonde pencil that could work too.

Oh found this review of NYX red eyebrow powder. Sounds good :http://www.makeupalley.com/product/showreview.asp?ItemID=94720

Mascara is supposed to be for eyelashes, but I've always found it to work great for darkening eyebrows as well in a very natural way.  You can find mascara in all sorts of colours and, in theory, you could find one in a nice brown rather than a black.  Carefully brush over eyebrow hairs without getting any on your skin.  Smudge and/or waterproof might be a good thing to consider as well -- I have a horrible habit of touching my face all the time.

I used to draw on my eyebrows (I plucked them off,) and it takes a long while to get good at drawing them on freehand.  However a very surprising amount of people did not realize they were drawn on until told.

Not the best photo, but here are my eyebrows.  The one eyebrow has a dark spot from a previous pimple that I messed with.  I have tried using brow powder, but I just don't think there are enough hairs from the middle to the end to catch the pigment.  I also am getting to have problems with bags under my eyes that I have no idea what to do with.

try the eyelash mascara trick.  Use something that matches your own hair.  Or use eyeshadow and a little fine tipped brush.  Tip brush in water then use shadow and make a semi-thin paste.  Draw individual hairs is short strokes.  It might take a bit to get the look just right, but it works.  I use alcohol because I have been doing it for a long time and know how much to use.

Today I saw a guy on TV that had dark blond hair, but his eyebrows were darker - almost a black.  I've tried a light eyebrow powder, but don't notice much.  Do you think I could get by with a darker shade, like a dark brown?  I'd love to be able to get a more feminine look with them, but not much to work with.  I took my girl friend to the salon the other day to get her eyebrows waxed and the stylist suggested that I tattoo them on. I've been checking out everyone's eyebrows now and it seems that everyone has more hair than I do!
