Tanya Bloomfield, who was born Timothy, claims her sexuality would make her an object of hate should she return to Northern Ireland.
Miss Bloomfield, whose father Sir Kenneth retired from the civil service in 1992 but returned to work for the late Mo Mowlam as Victims' Commissioner during her time as Secretary of State, moved to Canada four years ago.
