I've moved to SE Michigan and am looking for a new endo in the area.

I've found this: http://www.transgendermichigan.org/transpages/d.html and it looks like there are a lot of resources in Ann Arbor, but that's a bit of a drive for me.  I'm looking for someone closer to Detroit, and there are some doctors listed close to Detroit.  However, most listings don't really specify whether the doctor does hormone work or is just a trans-friendly doctor of some other branch of medicine.

I'm already on hormones, I just need an FtM-friendly doctor to look at my bloodwork and write new scripts as necessary.  Really, a GP would be fine for this (that's what my previous doctor is), as long as they had some experience with FtMs.  Any recommendations, guys?

I have also been looking for a trans friendly doc around Detroit....like you said everything seems to be in the Ann Arbor area. Every number I see online is disconnected too =/

but my GP told me That he was the only one doing it (this was 17 months ago)

I think recently they added another doctor but I'm pretty sure she's in Ann Arbor/Domino Farms too :-/

I love my endo. She's great.
Her name is Dr. Jacalyn Bishop. She's on the cutting edge of HRT. She knows her stuff.

She's a pediatric endo, and i started seeing her when i was 17. BUT i'm pretty sure that she sees older people too. She's still my endo, and i'm now above the pediatric age.

Technically, it is a pediatric practice. It's called Endocrine Kids. Google it!
She has quite a few ftm, and a couple mtf patients. I'm almost positive that most of them are older than pediatric age. You should call and check though.  She definitely knows what she's doing. I highly recommend her.  She's very knowledgable.

You can definitely get blood work, and adjustments to your prescription done with her too.

She's in Novi.
That's about 30 min, from Detroit.



Like you said, most of the people who will work with you are in Ann Arbor. I'm actually from Ann Arbor, but i went on testosterone when i was underage (no one in ann arbor treats underage trans people), so i had to go elsewhere. I'm actually glad i did! She's been really amazing, and responsive.

JocelynFreiky, thanks for mentioning Dr. Pek.  Whoever reviewed him on the Transgender Michigan site, though, said that he is good with MtFs, but not so much with FtMs.  I'd ask if you thought otherwise, but...

Jude: thanks for the heads up on Dr. Bishop.  Sounds like a good practice, and it's only half as far as Ann Arbor.  Guess I'll feel a little odd calling since it's a pediatric practice, but it's worth a shot.  Since she has other FtM patients, I gather that I'm not going to confuse the office staff if I call and say 'Hi, I'm an FtM and I'm looking for an endo'?

It's definitely worth giving them a call!

And yeah, i think that explaining that you're ftm would work. Maybe give a little more detail like saying female to male transexual instead of just "ftm". I don't know how familiar her staff is with trans lingo. They all tried super hard to get my pronouns right (pre-t), and they were REALLY nice about showing me how to inject.

Don't get me wrong, he knows his stuff
He just is "half Retired"

I see him once maybe twice a year
but he's very lenient and prescribed hormones to me on the first visit
I actually have been in search for another doctor to get a second opinion as he (Like most endos) are difficult to keep in touch with,
not that it is absolutely vital that you keep in touch, but starting something so life changing you would think that they would be more responsive.

I definatley would look into domino's farm though
as they recently opened an extension from the U of M specifically for ENDOCRINGOLOGY
