Hi all,

I had a trachea shave operation with a surgeon in Beverley Hill on this Feb who claimed had many this kind of surgery before. After 4 month, my Adam apple still visible though it's smaller and flatter than before. I went to see him last week and he confessed that he was Conservative on cutting my cartilage, he was willing to offer me a second surgery with no charge to make my neck more flat. And he will use the same incision as my first one which is above the adam apple and within the winkle of my neck.

I know I definitely need to have second trachea shave surgery to get rid of my adam apple, but I am struggling to decide if I want to go back him. I wonder any one has similar experience and can share your thoughts and suggestions:

1. if the doc is experienced on this, is it possible he didn't cut enough just because of Conservative while there are still more space to cut? How can I assume the second time will achieve the desired result?

2. if cut in the same incision, will it make the scare more difficult to heal and fading away?

3. If I decide to go to other doc who is more well known in our community, can I ask my money back from the surgeon since the result is not what I expected? any successful story?

That's a good question, Amanda. Unfortunately I don't have the answer.

It would be nice if there was some sort of public scale for trach surgeons indicating how conservative/aggressive they are.

If you have surgery by Doctor X, Doctor Y will say that that X left most of the Adam's apple in.
Also, a trach shave can not really reduce the side bulk of your Adam's apple.

Aggressive trach shaving can affect your voice either temporarily or permanently.
Just remember that when Renée Richards had her trach shave the surgeon actually broke through!

The best solution: gain 50 pounds and the Adam's apple issue will be moot. (Just kidding.)

I am a singer I used to sing tenor but when I go back after full transition I will sing alto. I unfortunately was curse with an enormous adam's apple. I am not sure what will happen when I get a trech shave. But if it effects my voice or God forbid they cut through, I will be eternally sad.

How does your voice sound now? Have you recovered?

I don't see any impact on my voice after my operation. I think as far as the surgeon is experienced and good, I don't see how it will change your voice. 

Ok, I decided to go back to the same doctor on Sep 16th. He seems a nice and responsible doctore, I willing to trust him and give him and me a second chance. I really want to have flat neck!

He was negligent as a surgeon and did not perform the procedure to the extent you requested, therefore it was a failed surgery, it's not your fault he didn't perform fully, he should have rejected you if he does not feel competent in tracheal shave, he should either give you a refund, or you should sue his ass and spend your compensation on more plastic surgery.
