I have never been a very political person but this year I have become part of the Steering Committee for the QUAQE group at Queen's University.

Recently the Principal drafted a new Strategic Plan for the University and put it out for review.  One thing that was absolutely missing from the paper was any reference to sexuality and gender identity diversity.  There was plenty of references to "diversity" in general and some groups were identified.  The paper was due to go to Senate this week so our group met on Monday and came up with a plan to ensure these 4 little words would be included, sexuality and gender identity.  After lobbying the Senate members, and with one of our members speaking with the Principal, she agreed that indeed the paper should include "sexuality and gender identity".  So it is with great pride that I announce this great step forward for Queen's University, the new Strategic Plan for Queen's University will now include the words "sexuality and gender identity".  She will have the document reprinted for their meeting on Thursday.

I know I'm quiet most times but I am very proud of the work that I do "behind the scenes".  But I will leave the big announcement for her.

Feeling pretty good right now..... feeling like doing one of those dances footballers do after scoring a touch down.   :icon_geekdance:

I think that's really wonderful, Gill.  I believe that the increasing tide of universities addressing this area in a positive manner, such as yours has, will ease the burden that transgendered people fall under as they grow up.  University teaches not only what you hear in the classrooms and with any luck the lessons of tolerance and the true value of a diverse society will carry forward into the future.

And yes, thank you very much!
