I doubt you can.

But think of how others might react. Some might be embarrassed for you, others might find it funny. Of those two, the second seems best and a little laugh will break the ice. It will also help those who do feel awkward.

One thing occurs. As I think I said, I went to an all boys boarding school. But sadly, I haven't managed to transision. If I had and went to a reunion I'm pretty certain some would be asking me some questions that may seem a little personal. They wouldn't be doing it for meanness. Mean people would make mean comments. It would be genuine interest.

If someone asked me, for example, if I've had it chopped off, I think I'd respond with something along the lines of looking directly at them and saying, That's not how it's done. If they asked me if I'm all woman, I'd say, All of me.

But don't get too hung up on this. If it happens, just play by ear. You have nothing to lose, nothing to prove.

I don't know your old friends of course or the relationship you had previously. But I wouldn't be surprised if a few do get a little over familiar.

It might be something to be prepaired for.

is your reunion this saturday? your nerves could be mixed in with excitement. i remember watching this one episode of oprah that was on not so long ago. it was about an mtf transwoman. in high school she tried to be the perfect guy, and she was actually very successful with it. she was the quarterback on the football team, and very popular. the one all the girls wanted to date, and the one all the guys wanted to be like, but all she was doing was overcompensating herself into someone she truly wasn't. she transitioned later on, and is now in a filmmaking career. she ended up going to her high school reunion, and most people were admirable of her, but one girl, not so much. there's actually alot of people who do accept it surprisingly. it's one of those things that you just have to go for, and it can be a very rewarding experience. it sounds like it has been so far for you, and there may even be more on the way.

I've never been to any of my reunions but MUST go when I'm through transition. It could be so much fun. Imagine a fully male class with the macho-factor going sky-high... and I'd be the only woman there. Could be that they won't even let me in saying I wasn't their classmate, but if I somehow could get past the guards I'd like to hear they asking "Is there anything interesting happened to you all these years?" I laugh every time I think of that situation

This has become a very though-provoking thread for me. I've never thought of any of my male friends from college in a seriously romantic way, but every since you've talked about going to the reunion w/your old friend, it's made me realize that there are a couple of male friends who I'd go weak in the knees for if they showed interest in me after I transitioned (even though I'm primarily attracted to CIS and trans women)..

That is good news.

But don't put yourself down. You've had the strength of character to face up to yourself and make these changes in your life. Then you had the strength of character to go to the reunion. Add on all the other problems you've dealt with along the way.

You are a lot tougher than you give yourself credit for. But we all need to find ourselves and discover how much strength we really have. You are going to surprise yourself.
