That is to say, first haircut where i plan to get it more than just trimmed.  It's around shoulder length now. Really should have asked this earlier because now i have less than 12 hours to figure out what i want to have done...

I'm a little nervous, the lady doing it is friends with my dad who i am the opposite of out to but wanting short hair doesn't necessarily mean anything. Kind of unsure about showing a photo of a male to display the cut - i don't want her being like "UM YOU KNOW THIS IS FOR BOYS RIGHT..." but w/e i can deal with that if i have to. It'll also annoy me if she's like "WHY YOUR HAIR IS SO PRETTY ~~" but she'd better do it anyway cos it's my hair. I'm kind of hoping that she won't ask any questions but will help me figure out what style will look best but JUST IN CASE i want a plan backed up and i was hoping you guys could help?
My hair looking good is kind of really important to me (i know, i'm vain :P)

Was wondering if you guys could give some suggestions for styles that would make me look more masculine (or androgynous) that would look good. Or, since i have a few ideas, just tell me if i could pull any off/which one would be best.

I was thinking about a fauxhawk or fauxhawk-type deal but not sure whether it'd just make me look like a lesbian ._.
Or something like

Don't know whether i'd pass/look ok with something a bit longer...

kind of wondering about the part, too, cos i've got a pretty clear one to one side. Do any of you know if it's hard to make that "disappear" so that my hair doesn't look like an 1800s german schoolboy's? Or does it naturally become less prominent/easier to style over at a certain shortness?

Any suggestions? Do any of you have experiences to share about getting your hair from long to short? THANK YOU SO MUCH I WILL BE SOO GRATEFUL IF YOU POST BEFORE LIKE 8 30 AM EST.

I got my hair cut from about shoulder-length to a fauxhawk style a few weeks ago, and it works really well for me. But I've got a good face shape for it.

I definitely think the first picture would look better on you than the longer hair, since your face is more round. Since you seem like you want to make too many waves, you may want to ask for a pixie cut - which is pretty much the female version of the first pic you posted. Pixies tend to look good with round faces, and can be made masculine pretty easily - and it's a good, safe option if you've never gone that short before.

Hallie Berry had this great pixie for a while:

You could ask the stylist to box the ear area a bit more (pointy 'sideburns' are very feminine, boxy ones are more boyish) and if left a little longer on top it could be easily fauxhawked. Or bring a picture of a pixie and the first pic you posted and say something like "I want this pixie, at this length."

Glad to help. Since it's pretty much the girl version of the first pic you posted, you should still be able to go stealth and get the results you want at the same time. :D

I agree pixie cut, but don't have them shape the sideburns - kinda leave em straight cut.  Then its long enough to style in either girl/boy/andro but still a nice short 'do.  You can to it messy / spikey / combed.  Lots of potential.

I think it'll be cute on you.

Thanks SO much to everyone. Ended up doing what you said & asking for a modified pixie cut (even showed the picture of halle berry, along with the one of pink & the guy in the green shirt =P). got some product so i can play with it a little more.  Doesn't look totally male but it's fine, like Rayalisse said i can try styling it however to get the Desired Effect.
Looks like this:

Thanks again, yall have seriously been a HUGE help.

Looks good Matt.  Cover it with guy hats as it grows towards its next cuts and you'll be OK.

It looks very good in your 3rd photo. This cut suits you well.
