A leading neuroscientist has dismissed the "myth" that women's brains are wired differently from men's.

Gina Rippon, professor of cognitive neuroimaging at Aston University, has accused fellow researchers of producing scientific findings that can be used to support the old prejudice that women are not men's intellectual equals.

It follows a spate of bestselling books promoting the idea that there are structural differences between men's and women's brains. They include The Essential Difference, by Simon Baron-Cohen, professor of psychiatry at Cambridge, which argues that female brains are better at empathising while men's are wired for analysing the physical world.

that neuroscientist must be out in the boondocks?  was the article serious or tongue in cheek to get the reader's attention?
Just last week I was looking at latest book from US researchers using all sorts of new imaging systems to see how brains did various tasks or responded to various stimuli and the areas and amounts of brain that responded really varied a lot between the sexes so if a specific task or stimuli caused a female brain to light up at the front but a male's to 'light up' at the back or vice versa then there must be different wiring.

This could be just this woman's enormous ego creating publicity or it may be a precursor to some radical, (pre-determined) change in policy by the medical establishment.

This reminds me, somewhat of some of the nonsense put about, just before the claim that homosexuality is innate, so President Clinton could have an excuse to stop US troops being sacked for being gay.

Appologies for being cynical. Pardon me to those who use the word paranoia.

But since the principal promoter of this notion also seems to want girly clothes on white women to be categorised in the same light as FGM, (Thus reducing FGM to a bit of fashion), it is difficult to understand how this idiot can be taken seriously.

But as they say, These people are only human. They don't make mistakes. They are going to save us all.
