The other day I was looking for a website, and I found a FREE one, so I took advantage of it and was able to create my first website. Now it's still under construction, but I think that I've done a pretty good job on it so far. I've got the basics done on it, but I will be adding more to it as the days go by. . .

If anyone wants to check out my website, type it into the address box and click enter. It doesn't seem to work by clicking the website icon at this time.

great. a useful tool i found when i was starting with webpages was

http://validator.w3.org/

it lets you check your html code to make sure that the syntax is correct. Webpages are addictive. Before you know it you will be paying for a hosting service and get a domain name. The voice of personal experince... ::)

Thanks Natalie. I'll check it out. Yeah, I know what you mean about webpages being addictive.  :)

And where prey tell is this Website? There's no link and your profile is private. As for designing Webpages, most on-line ones where you design with their software, such as myspace, livejournal, etc., are W3C complaint, but some have or use stuff some browsers or user's preferences won't display the same across browsers. So you shouldn't really need a validator, although it doesn't hurt to check it and have people with other platforms and browsers, such as Opera, Firefox and Safari, check the pages. Other Webpages design packages are a different and long story about compliance and compatibility.

Good luck. Susan.

Yes, making websites can be fun.  I went for a standard website where I pay for a domain and hosting monthly.  I used to actually handle all the hosting (including server maintenance) at another company I worked at, so setting that all up is not much of a problem.

No worries about not posting your page. Goggle is way too good about finding stuff like that. I'd post my own link too, but a quick whois tells all.

And a little extra. The W3C checker is only if you write your own html code. (as Suzan said in other words) I know yahoo geocities lets you actually have what is close to a real webpage where you post your own html code. That is where I started with. But once you want to do databases and dynamically generated pages. One needs to pay $$.

I'm going to set up a website soon just for the whole me very soon. not the limited image i tried to project for so many years of who i thought people wanted to see.

Haha yes.  That's why I changed the name my domains were registered under to Melissa prior to my legal name change. ;)  Also using an address and phone number that won't get directly to me, making it so I can't be tracked via whois. ;D

I'm reading your web site, and...you got kicked out of a MALL? That's terrible! They can't really do that, can they? You had as much right to be there as anyone!

Oh, and your web site looks great. Very simple, very nice.
Lock up yer daughters.

I'm sorry you have to live in such an intolerant environment.  I'm sure you must be a really strong person to be able to deal with the stuff you've been through.

Thank you Dennis and Sindy for your sweet words about my website. Hey Ricki, that is cool that we're the same age, but I was born in June.

Yes Melissa, it is very tough  living in such an intolerant environment, but I just don't let it bother me or get to me and I just try to move forward.

Thanks Kelly. Great hearing from you! Being that Dillards and Burdines are the two anchor stores in our shopping mall, they felt that I could be a problem to their customers. It's not like I am ever flamboyant. I always try to dress with the crowd so that I can easily fit in and be a part of it instead of standing out. But really, I thought it was a little unproffesional for them to report me to the newspaper and then to have that title on it. It didn't scare this girl away, but they did lose potential business from, and I could have been a good client either way.

Interesting theory there Natalie. Since all that I had done was weaving, I don't  think there was very much that the officer could have charged me with, unless you want to consider  wreckless driving a charge, but all I was doing was weaving , hardly considered wreckless.

I'll be adding more to the website in the near future. As you know, it's a growing thing . .  :o
